About this event

Trauma-informed approaches

Experiences of trauma are common in the general population, particularly for people who come into contact with health care, social care and criminal justice system services, and for people who work in these organisations. The widespread impact of trauma on the mental health, physical health, and social outcomes of people across the lifespan is well-recognised.

A trauma-informed approach helps people to recognise and respond to trauma, and therefore improve outcomes for people who have experienced trauma and the staff who support them. Trauma-informed approaches are increasingly being named in UK policies (e.g. the NHS Long Term Plan) and implemented in UK services.

What is this event about?

Becoming trauma aware is one of the first steps for staff and organisations in becoming trauma-informed. We are therefore offering this training and Q&A to support people to develop their knowledge and skills in trauma-informed approaches.

At this event you will increase your understanding about:

  • What a trauma-informed approach is
  • The benefits of taking a trauma-informed approach to ourselves as individuals, our colleagues, our organisations and for the people we work with
  • What a trauma-informed way of working can look like
  • Barriers to implementing and ingredients for success

Who is the event for:

People working in:

  • Roles where they come into contact with (however briefly) people who use their service
  • Clinical and non-clinical roles
  • Public sector organisations; the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise Sector; private organisations
  • Healthcare, social care, probation, criminal justice system, emergency services, housing, employment

People with a good understanding about trauma, e.g. experiences which may be traumatic, how common trauma is and the possible impacts of trauma.
