Description

In this workshop, attendees will learn strategies for addressing complex treatment needs of abused and traumatized children. Lecture will provide a clinical overview of trauma, sexual trauma and its application of clinical interventions using play therapy and sand play. Attendees should be prepared to engage in practical application of sand play techniques during training; in addition to being provided with case examples for discussion

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify and define varying forms of trauma and its impact on sexually abused children.

  2. Understand the impact and significance of adverse childhood experiences, and how their experiences are displayed in the play therapy room, specifically with sand play).

  3. Explore and identify at least 3 essential components of using sand play to assist children with creating and expressing their trauma.

  4. Participants will explore and identify key historical and theoretical perspectives on sand tray play therapy.

  5. Practice and develop basic skills for use with sand tray in the play therapy room.
