Event description

The Academy for Professional Excellence presents Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Alison Hendricks, LCSW, and Erika Ryan, PhD. Join us for a two-day training, followed by support through consultation calls to help you identify and resolve challenges you may ecounter when using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with your current caseload.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment model for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. This model addresses the unique needs of children and youth with PTSD symptoms, depression, or other behavioral, social, and emotional issues related to traumatic life experiences.

Completion of this course satisfies some criteria for TF-CBT certification, and participants will be eligible for up to 26 CE hours. To review our course flyer for more information on CEs, click here.

This course includes three major components: the Prerequisite eLearning, the In-Person Training, and the Consultation Calls.

Prerequisite eLearning

In order to qualify for the TF-CBT certification criteria, this course has a required prerequisite eLearning. This course must be completed prior to the start of the first class. It is estimated that this eLearning will take 10 hours, so please plan accordingly.

Once you have purchased a ticket for the in-person training, we'll send you a voucher for the eLearning and instructions on how to access the course.

In-Person Training

Led by Alison Hendricks, LCSW, the in-person training occurs over two days on February 9 & 10, 2018. Class starts at 8:30 AM and runs through 4:30 PM on both days.

Consultation Calls

This course includes support through consultation calls after the in-person class has concluded. We have scheduled two different call groups. One will be led by Alison Hendricks, LCSW, and the other by Erika Ryan, PhD. When you purchase your ticket, you will be prompted to select a call group to join.

Call Group A: Alison Hendricks, LCSW

All calls in this group will be one hour in duration, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM PT.

The calls are once monthly, on the second Monday of every month excluding November 2018.

Why are there multiple kinds of tickets?

The training is composed of two parts: the two-day, in class training, and the consultation calls. We hold multiple dates for the consultation calls so you can fit them into your schedule. We also provide room on the calls for people who have completed the in-person training elsewhere, and only need to complete the consultation calls. Because these tickets do not include the in-person training, they're offered at a lower price.

Your options are:

1. Attend the two-day training, join Consultation Call Group A (26 CE hours)

2. Attend the two-day training, join Consultation Call Group B (26 CE hours)

3. Join Consultation Call Group A only (12 CE hours)

4. Join Consultation Call Group B only (12 CE hours)

Where can I find more info about obtaining Continuing Education certificates?

Visit our website here. You'll find the information to verify we're approved to sponsor CEs.

What happens if I'm late to either training day?

If you want CEs, you can only miss 15 minutes of a training. If you're more than 15 minutes late to either day, you forfeit the CEs for that day. However, your ticket is still valid and you're welcome to enter the class and participate.

Is my ticket transferable?

Due to the restrictions surrounding eligibility for CEs, your ticket is not transferable. The name of the person attending the training must be the name on the ticket.

Is there free parking?

Yes! The training room has ample parking in an off-street lot.

Will food be provided?

Refreshments such as coffee, tea, water, and healthy snacks will be provided throughout the duration of the training.

The training will pause from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM for lunch on your own. Our training facility is located near many different restaurants in sunny San Diego.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please feel free to email kwood@sdsu.edu with any questions.
