Trauma Awareness and Embodiment workshop for mental health practitioners. Course meets the qualifications for 6 CEU's for those eligible.

About this Event

Through Power Point guided lecture and brief experiential embodiment practices, this workshop will provide therapists and other mental health practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of both individual and societal / systemic trauma, with greater emphasis on individual trauma. Participants will learn about the neurobiology of individual trauma, the critical role of the nervous system in trauma responses and trauma healing, the difference between Complex trauma and PTSD, and the importance of embodiment in trauma recovery and integration. Participants will also learn essential aspects of being a trauma-informed mental health practitioner.

Learning Objectives:

1. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of both individual and societal / systemic trauma and how embodiment can help support trauma healing.

2. You will learn how trauma effects the brain, autonomic nervous system and memory processing.

3. You will be able to identity six core elements of trauma healing and recovery.

4. You will learn a range of embodiment practices to use with clients.

5. You will learn essentials aspects of trauma-informed mental health practice.

Registered participants must have access to Zoom and will receive a Zoom link via Eventbrite. Registered participants will be emailed a hand out with a list of embodiment practices to be covered, before the workshop.

There will be two 15 minute breaks, one hour break for lunch, and opportunities for questions.

Embodiment practices can be done from a chair or standing and require minimal movement.

Leslie Bullock is approved by the CCC-California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT's, LCSW's, LEP's, LPCC's, associates of the preceding categories, and students. Leslie Bullock maintains responsibility for this course and its content. This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of Continuing Education units as required by the Board of Behavioral Science, for those listed above.

In order to receive Continuing Education units, participants must arrive on time, attend the full 6 hours of the workshop and complete and submit a brief test and evaluation.

Leslie Bullock, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in San Luis Obispo. Leslie specializes in treating individuals with Complex Trauma, PTSD, and trauma related stress. Her focus is the centrality of the mind/body connection, the wisdom of the body and embodiment-based treatment for trauma healing. Leslie is a registered yoga teacher, a certified Trauma Center Trauma- sensitive yoga (TCTSY) facilitator through the Center for Trauma and Embodiment, and a facilitator in training at the Trauma Resource Institute (TRI). She leads yoga at the California Men's Colony (CMC) with the Prison Yoga Project and at SLO County jail with Restorative Partners (pre-COVID-19 hold).
