Description

Trauma, Attachment, Loss and Narrative Therapy: Cross-Cultural Trauma Treatment

Trauma has debilitating effects in the human life cycle. “Human encounters with violence, abuse, atrocity, and catastrophe are widespread, and the psychological consequences of such exposure are often debilitating in the extreme” (Harvey et. al., 2012). At the core of such encounters is a strong sense of disruption and loss at various levels including physical, emotional, spiritual and psychic integrity. The presentation will seek to underscore loss across attachments and the need to engage story and the use of a cross-cultural bereavement lens.

Objectives
1. Gain an understanding of trauma and attachment in the human life cycle
2. Identify ways attachment psychologically and behaviorally acts as a protective factor in ameliorating effects of trauma
3. To identify trauma in the lens of immigration experiences
