Trauma and Moral Injury Workshop has been approved by NBCC for NBCC credit. Mental Health Professionals, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. NBCC Approval No. SP-3443. 

Overview:

Moral injury impacts not only people who have been in combat, but people from all walks of life who experienced different types of trauma and grief. This training provides an opportunity for mental health practitioners to obtain a comprehensive understanding of trauma, its connection to the development of moral injury, and the current methods utilized in the management of moral injury.

This workshop is designed to help you:

  • Comprehend trauma, types of trauma, trauma events, and how cultural issues impact those traumatized.
  • Identify the relationship between trauma and dissociation.
  • Identify the impact of trauma on the assumptive world, and its connection to the development of moral injury.
  • Recognize the connection between trauma and the development of PTSD and/or Moral Injury
  • Identify the key components of moral injury and how it differs from PTSD
  • Recognize the causes of moral injury and how it can affect individuals struggling to find meaning in their lives.
  • Identify the psychological and physical impact of trauma and moral injury, including the effect on the brain.
  • Assess & apply current methods utilized in the management of moral injury and identify/explain resources available to those affected by moral injury.

THE TRAINERS
Sarah M. Magnuson-Whyte, DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC: Sarah was the Co-Founder & former Director of Nursing Program at Pierce College. As Lecturer at University of Washington Nursing Program, and during faculty position in nursing program at Pierce College, Sarah used extensive medical and psychiatric training to present lectures and classes containing information on multiple topics, including trauma, PTSD, and the impact of trauma on the body/mind. As an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Washington, her duties focus on the management of patients with acute and chronic disease. Sarah also works with skilled nursing facilities and chemical dependency programs in the local area for consultation and medication management of critical patients within their facilities. Keith Meyer, M.S., LMHC, has been a counselor for over 30 years, specializing in the trauma field for over 15 years. His practice emphasizes serving people who have experienced trauma event(s), to assist them in understanding how those experiences affect their lives and how trauma can provide an opportunity for growth. He has conducted over 35 Posttraumatic Growth workshops since late 2017.
