Description

This course will provide participants with foundational knowledge about child trauma and child traumatic stress. Participants will learn how trauma affects children including the impact on child development. Participants will also explore how cultural factors may impact a child’s response to traumatic events.

Topics and Learning Objectives

• Desribe the three types of traumatic experiences

• Identify the three types of stress that result from each type of traumatic experience

• Explain the impact of trauma on children who have experienced maltreatment

• Understand that trauma is the event and stress is the physiological impact of the traumatic event on body systems

• Explain the relationship between a child's lifetime trauma history and his or her behaviors and responses

• Identify the impact of trauma on child development

• Identify positive responses to initiate resiliency in children who have experienced trauma
