Traps, Cordage, & Camo
Sun, Jul 30, 2017, 5:00 PM – Fri, Aug 4, 2017, 12:00 PM EDT
Inspired by an animal of great importance, students will discover hidden and forgotten secrets about the natural world. This class is devoted to the skills which make up the title, and yet it applies to so much more. Students will learn new ways and materials in cordage production, culminating with the "cordage machine", a.k.a. drop spindle, a primitive invention of tremendous significance to those who possessed the technology. The cordage students make will be used to craft a variety of animal traps which we will set and test (no animals will actually be trapped). Students will also learn new facets of natural camouflage for their traps and their bodies. Woven into these three areas of focus will be skills such as: woodworking, tracking, weaving, knots, and more. Each student will also make a personalized dream catcher.
Students must have taken our Family, Youth, & Teen Experience or our Family Survival Weekend program first.
