Transition to Post Secondary - Supporting Learners Post GED!

April 23 & Repeated May 14, 2014, 4:00 - 5:30 PM EST

 3:00 - 4:30 PM CST;  2:00 - 3:30 PM MST;  1:00 - 2:30 PM PST

Description:

This webinar will provide participants with an understanding of what adult learners who learn differently need to transition from high school or GED classes to post secondary education or training. Topics will include the differences among high school, adult education and post secondary training and education. The presenter will also discuss financial aid, disability support services, documented and undocumented disabilities, study skills and habits, and test taking skills. The presenter will examine the difficulties caused by the attitudes and norms of the “subculture of the undereducated” (learners from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds).

Objectives By the end of the Webinar participants will:
1) Be able to identify misconceptions that adult learners bring to post secondary learning situations
2) Explain the rights that learners with documented disabilities have in accessing post secondary training and education.
3) Be able to complete a checklist with students to ensure that those transitioning into post secondary education are well informed.
