Description

The Regional Transition Network in Buchanan County partnered to bring a day of fun and learning for students with IEP's. The focus of thisday is designed to empower highschool students to prepare and plan for life after highschool. Students will have opportunities to learn from others who have "been there" and gain some valuable resources.

SESSIONS INCLUDE:

Charting the Lifecourse - Students will build a vision for a good life

Building Job Skills – Students will learn about soft skills and how to prepare for job interviews

"My First Job" Employment Panel – Students will learn about the variety of jobs from young adults

and/or employers

Vendor Fair - Students will have the chance to explore many different local vendors and

recieve information about the transit system, local law enforcement, etc.

Colton McClain will also be our Keynote Speaker. Colton grew up in St. Joseph, MO and is currently attending University of Missouri. Kolton will talk about his transition out of highschool, past work experience and future goals.

We will also have a Parent Lounge for parents to learn about local resources, learn from each other and learn about disability benefits.

Doors will open at 8:30AM, with the event starting at 9AM. The event will wrap up at 2pm, but volunteers will be on-site until 3pm. Students will need transportation to and from the event.

We will provide lunch, refreshements and snacks throughout the day. We will also end the day with a few great door prizes for some lucky students.
