Event description
Learn how to transition your farm or ranch to a someone outside of your family.

About this Event

Description: If you are reading this, chances are you are a farmer and are connected to your land. That’s good. But what happens when you and your family can no longer care for the land? What can you do to ensure that the lineage of its stewardship is preserved? At the same time, how can you support farmers, like yourself, for generations to come? Diana Tourney is a farmer, accountant, and Small Business Development Center instructor with Clackamas Community College. She has counseled over 100 farmers and ranchers and developed a specialty in farm transition coaching. Diana is the foremost resource on non-familial farmland transfer in the State of Oregon.

Workshop Format: Diana will provide a 40 minute presentation followed by 20-30 minutes of questions and conversation. This workshop provides an opportunity for interactive conversation between the presenter and attendees. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions to the workshop to help guide the conversation.

Workshop Goal: We want participants to feel confident in their next steps as they consider if non-familial transition is for them and, if so, how to successfully execute a farmland transfer to another farmer.

Workshop Preparation: Prepare a list of questions and bring it to the workshop.

This workshop pairs nicely with:

  • Wednesday, February 17 - How to Start the Farm Transition Conversation
  • Wednesday, February 24 - Transition Pathway 1: Farm/Ranch Transition Within The Family
  • Wednesday, March 10 - Utilizing Conservation Easements and the Natural Resource Conservation Service to Protect Your Farmland

Farm, Ranch, and Business Transition Series

The Farm & Business Transition Series will take place on Wednesday evenings February 17 & 24 and March 3 & 10. This series is designed to help farmers and ranchers take the next steps towards a succession plan for their business or land. The workshops cover how to start the succession conversation, the nuts and bolts of transition inside and outside the family, and utilizing conservation easements to transition farm operations.
