Event description

Description

WORK GROUP: a group of people who work together
versus

SUPPORT GROUP: a group of people with common experiences and concerns who provide emotional and moral support for one another

We are not a support group but we ARE a supportive work group. If you are looking for a SUPPORTIVE WORK GROUP then you have found the place!

The transition from high school into adulthood is often described as falling off a cliff. While in school you may have had a team of educators helping provide necessary services for your loved one. Unfortunately, that legal mandate ends the day after high school and not all of our population will be eligibile for special supports in adulthood.

SSI, DD, how to navigate high school transition programs, how to navigate college, developing life skills, independent living options, group homes, ENABLE, Voc Rehab, day providers, job placement options, transportation options...it's enough to make your head spin!

This workgroup is comprised of CAREGIVERS who are taking a collective breath, rolling up their sleeves and jumping over that cliff together. A few of us have already leapt while others are being lulled to the edge whether we feel ready or not. Together we are exploring the services that are out there and sharing our knowledge. We are building our own support team to help during this new phase of life.
