Event description
A program to educate employers on the rights of transgender employees and best practices for fostering an inclusive work environment.

About this Event

The meaning of “sex” under Title VII vis-à-vis members of the trans community is currently a point of contention in the law. Although California law affords such protection to members of the trans community, best practices for an employer remain murky. This NCERT panel will discuss the legal landscape leading up to and including R.G. and G.R. Harris Funeral Homes v. EEOC, a case argued before the United States Supreme Court regarding whether gender identity discrimination constitutes a form of “sex discrimination” under Title VII. Further, with a focus on California employers, the panel will discuss best practices for trans-related issues in the workplace, including appropriate terminology, recruitment and retention, reasonable accommodations, and privacy.
