Transforming the Built Environment in Emerging Markets
Event Information
Description
Green buildings represent the single largest opportunity to address climate change pressures and improve the quality of life in developing countries. Buildings generate about 15% of GHG emissions and consume about 40% of electricity globally, with future building growth occurring almost entirely in developing countries.
IFC and the World Green Building Council share the commitment to transform the built environment by connecting local GBC's implementation networks with IFC programs. Combining the capabilities of the world's leading institution for private sector development with the world's largest international organization influencing the green building marketplace will open doors for market transformation.
WorldGBC will reveal findings from a major worldwide study on how green buildings can be delivered at a price comparable to conventional buildings, recouping investment through operational cost savings. For the first time, IFC will unveil to the public EDGE ("Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies"), a low-cost, easy-to-use tool for mass market green building design and certification.
