Transformer Startup and Maintenance Introduction
Target Audience
Experienced field service engineers or technicians whose job responsibilities will include commissioning and service of all types of transformers or anyone who wishes to further their understanding of transformers in general.
Learning Objective
At completion of this eight-hour live online instructor-led course, students will be familiarized with transformer styles, general startup procedures and necessary maintenance procedures.
Abstract
Using visual and real-world examples, attendees learn about commissioning procedures and maintenance testing that would be needed on unit substation and power transformers. Students will become familiar with transformer basics such as standard operating principles, construction characteristics, inspections and testing of dry-type and liquid-immersed transformers.
Course Topics Include:
- Transformer basics (what is a transformer)
- Construction characteristics
- Identifying transformer components
- Differences between dry-type and liquid filled
- Nameplate data and identifying information
- Transformer tap changers
- External inspection
- Discussion over testing (TTR, winding resistance, insulation resistance, power factor)
