Margaret Henderson is a Lecturer in Public Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Director of Public Intersection Project. Human Trafficking is defined as forcing, fooling or frightening someone into performing labor or sex acts for profit. North Carolina is a hub for human trafficking and had 221 reported cases in 2017, which puts North Carolina 8th among all 50 states for reported cases according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Sheriff Kevin Auten stated, “We are constantly doing what we can do as law enforcement. But we can only intercede when we are aware of victims. This training is targeted at helping County and municipal employees understand how they can help law enforcement reduce Human Trafficking in Rowan County.”
