Event description

Description

Young SIETAR is offering the #fifth edition of its highly acclaimed Training of Intercultural Trainers (TOIT) series.

TOIT participants will learn, or add to their knowledge of, how to design, develop and deliver effective intercultural training interventions and (further) improve their training skills.

TOIT brings together newcomers to the intercultural field, students with intercultural focus and experienced intercultural practitioners from all over the world to network, learn from *experienced IC trainers and each other, and plan the next stages of their intercultural careers.

The program offers two primary tracks – Core Skills and Advanced Skills - depending on participants’ level of experience. Furthermore, participants can choose from an array of optional Open Sessions to accelerate their learning.

# - The first four editions of the YS TOIT series were held in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) in 2006, Jena (Germany) in 2009, Berlin (Germany) in 2014, and Krakow (Poland) in 2016.

* - The TOIT will be custom designed and co-facilitated by a team of IC practitioners who are coming to Barcelona at their own expense from North Africa, North America and Eastern Europe. Team members specialize in such key IC training areas as: career development, competence building, conflict resolution, executive coaching, facilitation skills, global leadership, multi-cultural teamwork, organizational psychology, relocation training, etc.

The TOIT is open to anyone over 18 years old. There is no maximum age limit for participants as Young SIETAR unites all intercultural trainers who are young at heart.

Program

The 2017 TOIT program comprises two distinct yet related tracks that participants can choose from, based on their own assessment of their level of experience, knowledge and interests:

The Core Skills (CS) track contains a series of practical sessions that address the most important elements of effective intercultural training design, development, and delivery.

This track is primarily intended for those interculturalists who are new to the field, freshly finished with their studies, or who wish to revisit the basics of intercultural training.

The current schedule of topics for Core Skills participants includes:

  1. Understanding the key models and tools of intercultural training
  2. Preparing and carrying out an appropriate needs assessment
  3. Establishing effective objectives for a learning event
  4. Building a training design that is balanced and powerful
  5. Developing appropriate content for learners, including effective PowerPoint slides and other visual aids
  6. Core delivery and facilitation skills
  7. Brief Train-backs of content learned with immediate, constructive group feedback and individual coaching
  8. Planning your Intercultural training career, whether in full-time employment or your own practice

The Advanced Skills (AS) track contains a series of more applied topics relevant to the design, development, and delivery of high impact intercultural training.

This track is primarily intended for those intercultural practitioners, who feel they have substantial experience already and are looking to reflect on their current practice, hone their existing training skills, and deepen their expertise in related areas, such as coaching, curriculum design, facilitating, and marketing.

The current schedule of topics for Advanced Skills participants includes:

  1. Exploring future trends in intercultural training
  2. Getting more out of your IC training design and delivery
  3. The option to deliver short content sessions to the Core Skills track participants (on key models and tools of intercultural training), with immediate group feedback and optional one-on-one coaching
  4. Deepening skills in such related areas as coaching, curriculum design and facilitating
  5. Marketing and continuing to thrive in the mature phase of an IC career
  6. Open Space sessions to propose and explore areas of common interest on ad hoc basis
  7. Additional sessions based on the results of a needs analysis done with all registered Advanced Skills participants.

All participants, regardless of their chosen track, are invited to attend sessions from either track, based on their particular interest, needs, or goals.

In addition to the Core Skills and Advanced Skills sessions, TOIT participants will also have the option to participate in broader “Open Sessions” that are relevant to trainers of all types and levels and which address current topics of interest to intercultural trainers.

The Open Sessions are currently scheduled to include:

  • Current trends in the Intercultural Industry for 2017
  • Ethics for interculturalists
  • Identity & Diversity: how they relate to intercultural training
  • Unconscious bias and culture
  • Blended learning: What is it and how to make the best of it?
