Event description

Description

The training in Special Educational Needs is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, tutors and shadows. It is given in English. The training consists of 7 separate study days that can all be booked individually.

The study day on dyslexia will start by looking at what the participants understand by the term ‘dyslexia’ and consider diagnostic definitions of dyslexia.

We will look at phonological, language and executive functioning development issues in children who are diagnosed as being dyslexic.

We will consider the skills that go into learning to read and how to analyse children’s reading errors. Different strategies for teaching reading will be explored and some resources will also be discussed.

We will look at the component skills that children need in order to master spelling successfully. We will study English phonemes and graphemes briefly so that everyone understands the terminology in the literature. Strategies and resources supporting the development of spelling will be discussed.

Finally, we will look at writing composition and the challenges that may be faced by students with dyslexia. We will break down a writing task into steps and look at strategies and resources that may support students when writing.

Links to helpful websites, books, resources and technology will be given in the study booklet.

Lunch, refreshments and a study workbook are provided.

Booking can also be completed by invoice through www.inclusion4all,com/training
