Event description

Description

The training in Special Educational Needs is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, tutors and shadows. It is given in English. The training programme consists of a series of study days that can all be booked individually.

The study day on autistic spectrum disorders will start by looking at what the participants understand by the term ‘autism’ and then consider diagnostic definitions of autistic spectrum disorder.

We will look at the signs that may mean that a (young) child is autistic and also consider other factors that influence children’s behaviour and interactions with others. We will consider the challenges that autistic children may have in social interaction, social imagination and social communication.

We will look at the triggers in school that might make the classroom and playground an uncomfortable place for children with autism.

In the afternoon, we will spend time discussing strategies for making learning environments safer for children with autism. This part of the study day will be very practical and participants will work together to draw up intervention ideas that can be taken away and implemented in their own settings. We will also look briefly at how to use behaviour intervention plans successfully and some of the interventions that families may use at home.

Lunch, refreshments and a workbook are all provided.

Bookings can also be made by invoice through www.inclusion4all.com/training
