Event description

Description

The {Training Consortium} is hosting a FREE, full day training (with CEU's) in the FISP (Family Intervention for Suicide Prevention) for clinicians providing treatement services to children, youth and families in Fairfax County.

The Family Intervention for Suicide Prevention (FISP) is a cognitive behavioral family intervention for youth ages 10-18 who are presenting with suicidal ideation or after a suicide attempt. The FISP uses the encounter with the clinician to decrease the short-term risk of repeated suicidal ideation and behavior by building the coping skills of youth and their families, enhancing motivation for follow-up mental health treatment, and improving linkage to outpatient follow-up treatment services. The FISP is listed as a “program with evidence of effectiveness” in SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs.

This training will include a very brief overview of suicide basics and assessing for risk. The bulk of the day will focus on implementation of the 60-90 minute FISP intervention.

***Please note*** As a pre-requisite to collecting your CEU certificate at the conclusion of this training, please complete the online training for the Columbia Risk Assessment Tool here: http://cssrs.columbia.edu/training/training-options/ and bring your certificate of completion with you.
