Event description

Description

Women Who Code Belfast have arranged an open Training Event for people interested in championing children in tech. You don't need to have prior experience of working with children as the session aims to guide you through everything you need to know. Also, you don’t have to be a coder – you may be involved in another area of tech, or STEM/STEAM and just eager to create something new for young people - that’s fine too.

We have partnered with some great organisations who have established experience in setting up code clubs and STEAM events. These include Women Who Code Youth, Code Club, CoderDojo, Business In The Community's 'Time to Code' programme and STEM Ambassadors.

COST:

This training is free and DBS costs covered under the STEM Ambassadors Programme.

AGENDA:

  • Welcome by Athena SWAN
  • Introduction: Tech Youth in NI.
  • Speakers from established coding clubs give us a brief overview of how they work
  • Discussion: Beyond Clubs Ideas Sharing
  • Registering for the STEM Ambassador Program & STEM Ambassador Modules (compulsory for all new ambassadors)
  • Next Steps: Guidance & Networking Ahead

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS?

By completing this session, you will gain confidence, be able to network with established trainers and clubs, meet others who share your interest in youth & community outreach or even be ready to create new events in your own local community! You don’t have to commit to a series of after school clubs, even if you attend this event. But you will be able to.

You will also be given the opportunity to begin the DBS Clearance process to become a registered STEM Ambassador for Northern Ireland. If you are a STEM Ambassador already but not been active recently, you are also welcome to attend and gain some new inspiration!

You may be involved in other groups and want to reach out to children teaching them about your own area of tech or STEM. That’s absolutely fine – our goal is to enable children across all our disciplines as well as introduce people to options already in place.

DATE & PLACE:

The training takes place on Tuesday 28th November from 6pm - 8pm in the impressive refurbished Ulster University Belfast campus, kindly hosted by the UU's Athena SWAN team.
