At CASSA (Council of Agencies Serving South Asians), we want to ensure that the communities we represent are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to interact with political and civic life from as early as possible.
Teaching the importance of civic literacy to our youth is crucial in order to support the next generation of leaders.
This year we would like to present our new project called Trailblazers: “A Civic Engagment Training Series” geared towards young leaders aged 16-21 years old. The series will start on Thursday, November 10th from 6-8pm and run 5 consecutive weeks every Thursday from 6-8pm until December 8th. Youth can choose to attend any one of the workshops or all of them but they will need to attend at least three out of the five to receive a certificate of completion.
We will be holding lessons on a number of different topics. The schedule for the program is as follows:
Week 1: Thursday, November 10th - Democracy 101
Week 2: Thursday, November 17th - Anti-racism & Anti-oppression
Week 3: Thursday, November 24th - Community Engagement
Week 4: Thursday, December 1st - Fundraising/ Volunteer Management
Week 5: Thursday, December 8th - Media Relations
Refreshments and bus tokens will be provided!
