11 Benefits of Reiki Treatments

There are many wonderful benefits of Reiki. Reiki is a very simple process, but usually produces quite profound effects. The main purpose of a reiki treatment is not only to support the physical body, but also to promote a positive mind so you can experience more joy in life. The great thing about reiki is that one does not have to be ill to experience the benefits.

Some come to Reiki to help with their energy levels, managing the stress of daily life or when transitions are happening in their lives. Others will come to develop themselves spiritually and experience a greater sense of meaning in life. Many of my clients are well and want to stay that way so reiki helps them to maintain that harmony so they can respond to the challenges differently.

After a treatment most people feel calm and relaxed, self better and some say they feel energetic, clear-minded and productive.

Many who come for Reiki treatments or Reiki trainingrealise that balancing their systems can help them to cope better with a wide range of health conditions, including stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and infertility to mention a few.

Benefits of Reiki

1. Promotes Harmony & Balance

Reiki helps to promote harmony and balance. It is an effective, non invasive energy healing modality that enhances the body’s natural healing ability whilst energising and promoting overall wellness. Reiki works directly on restoring balance on all levels and works directly on the problem and condition instead of just masking or relieving symptoms.

When we chat about balance, we mean mental and emotional balance, left and right brain, masculine and feminine, labelling things as good or bad, positive or negative etc.

2. Creates deep relaxation and helps the body release stress and tension

What many people enjoy about a reiki treatment is it allows them time to themselves where they aren’t ‘doing’ but just ‘being’. Clients have reported feeling more clear, peaceful, relaxed and lighter in themselves.

Reiki provides a space where you can be more aware of what is going on inside your body and mind. To learn to listen to your own body and make wise decisions regarding your well being from this place. Being more present means you are in your body, which helps you to access even more that inner knowing and wisdom that we all have!

3. Dissolves energy blocks and promotes natural balance between mind, body and spirit

Regular Reiki treatments can bring about a calmer and more peaceful state of being, in which a person is better able to cope with everyday stress. This mental balance also enhances learning, memory and mental clarity.

Reiki can heal mental/emotional wounds and can help alleviate mood swings, fear, frustration and even anger. Reiki can also strengthen and heal personal relationships.

Because Reiki enhances your capability to love, it can open you up to the people around you and help your relationships grow.

4. Assists the body in cleansing itself from toxins and supports the immune system

We spend so much time in stress-reactive fight/flight phase that it becomes our ‘norm’ and our bodies literally forget how to return to balance.

Reiki reminds our bodies how to shift into parasympathetic nervous system (rest / digest) self-healing mode.

Rest/digest doesn’t mean you have to stop being active and productive or ‘do nothing’. It allows you to sleep better and digest better which is important to maintaining health and vitality. The more you are in this space, the more you can be active and productive without being stressed, exhausted or burntout.

5. Clears the mind and improves focus as you feel grounded & centred

Reiki can support you in staying centered in the present moment rather than getting caught up in regrets about the past or anxieties about the future. It can strengthen your ability to accept and work with the way events are unfolding even when they don’t follow your desires or timetable. You begin to react to situations, people and yourself in a supportive way rather than acting our of habit.

6. Aids better sleep

The number one outcome of receiving a Reiki session is relaxation. When we’re relaxed, we sleep better, our bodies heal better, we think more clearly, and we relate to each other more genuinely. Often clients will experience deep relaxation during their Reiki session and sometimes a deep sleep during the session as well.

7. Accelerates the body’s self-healing ability as you start to return to your natural state

Reiki healing quickly returns you to your natural state, or at least gets your body moving in the right direction.

That means your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure improve. Breathing deeper and easier is one of the first things to happen during a self-practice or treatment received from someone else. When we breath better, our minds naturally settle. Science supports that.

As your respiration deepers your body moves into parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) dominance i.e. the rest/digest phase. Your body was made to function primarily in the rest/digest phase rather than the more commonly experienced fight/flight phase.

8. Helps relieve pain and supports the physical body healing

On the outside looking in, a Reiki treatment might appear to be merely a sequence of hand placements, it works to restore balance on the deepest possible level. It encourages your system to improve your body’s vital functions (breathing, digesting and sleeping) so your physical systems function optimally.

On the physical level, Reiki helps to relieve pain from migraine, arthritis, sciatica ~ just to name a few. It also helps with symptoms of asthma, chronic fatigue, menopausal symptoms, and insomnia.

9. Helps spiritual growth and emotional cleansing

You do not need to be into spirituality to enjoy the benefits of reiki. Yet, for many they receive reiki treatments to support themselves through their self healing journey i.e. spiritual growth / personal development.

Reiki addresses the whole person, rather than targeting individual symptoms. It can create profound, often subtle shifts from deep within your own being. What does that look like? Guidance about what to do around difficult situations can come more easily. Or it may inspire a change in attitude or belief about your situation. Suddenly, you see your condition from a fresh perspective and are able to deal with it in a more positive way. Or it might direct you to the right kind of action needed which is guided from within.

10. Compliments medical treatment & other therapies

Reiki is a wonderful compliment to conventional medicine and helps relax patients on the levels of the mind and physical body. When a patient is relaxed the healing process is accelerated. People sleep much better and are calmer following Reiki treatments.

The beauty of Reiki is that it is non invasive and is administered in a very gentle manner. The Reiki practitioner can give Reiki without touching the body in cases where patients have burns or major injuries.

Reiki is safe to use if you have medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes or heart conditions. You may receive Reiki treatments if you are undergoing chemotherapy. Pregnant woman can have Reiki treatments to support them through all stages of the pregnancy. Reiki is for everyone!

11. You can learn Reiki yourself

Many clients will learn reiki for themselves by attending my Reiki Level 1 course so they can boost their own energy levels on a daily basis. Some are drawn to reiki to support their physical healing, some want to delve deeper into their personal development and most have experienced the benefits of reiki and wish to be able to support themselves that way regularly.

What is Reiki?

In Reiki, the practitioner transfers energy by placing their hands over or on the patient.

In Reiki, the practitioner transfers energy by placing their hands over or on the patient.

The word "Reiki" means "mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign." It comes from the Japanese words "rei" (universal) and "ki" (life energy). Reiki is a type of energy healing.

Energy healing targets the energy fields around the body.

According to practitioners, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been a physical injury or possibly emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness.

Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body, practitioners, can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.

Reiki has been around for thousands of years. Its current form was first developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist called Mikao Usui, who reportedly taught 2,000 people the Reiki method during his lifetime. The practice spread to the U.S. through Hawaii in the 1940s, and then to Europe in the 1980s.

It is commonly referred to as palm healing or hands-on healing.

What happens in a Reiki session?

Reiki is best held in a peaceful setting, but it can be carried out anywhere. The patient will sit in a comfortable chair or lie on a table, fully clothed. There may or may not be music, depending on the patient's preference.

The practitioner places their hands lightly on or over specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso using different hand shapes, for between 2 and 5 minutes. The hands can be placed over 20 different areas of the body.

If there is a particular injury, such as a burn, the hands may be held just above the wound.

While the practitioner holds their hands lightly on or over the body, the transfer of energy takes place. During this time, the practitioner's hands may be warm and tingling. Each hand position is held until the practitioner senses that the energy has stopped flowing.

When the practitioner feels that the heat, or energy, in their hands has abated, they will remove their hands and may place them over a different area of the body.

Some Reiki techniques

The techniques involved have names such as:

  • centering
  • clearing
  • beaming
  • extracting harmful energies
  • infusing
  • smoothing and raking the aura

Some Reiki practitioners will use crystals and chakra healing wands because they find these can enable healing or protect a home from negative energy.

However, Annie Harrington, Chair of the Reiki Federation of the United Kingdom (U.K.), told Medical News Today:

"Reiki relies on no other instruments beyond the practitioner. We do not use crystals, powders or wands as a general rule. However, one of the benefits of Reiki healing is distance healing (where Reiki is sent over several miles) then, many practitioners will use crystals to assist with the energy vibrations."

Sessions can last between 15 and 90 minutes. The number of sessions will vary, depending on what a client wishes to accomplish. Some clients prefer to have one session while others have a series of sessions to work on a particular issue.

Health benefits

According to practitioners, the healing effects are mediated by channeling the universal energy known as qi, pronounced "chi." In India, this is known as "prana." This is the same energy involved in tai chi exercise. It is the life force energy that some believe surrounds all of us.

This energy is said to permeate the body. Reiki experts point out that, while this energy is not measurable by modern scientific techniques, it can be felt by many who tune in to it.

Reiki is alleged to aid relaxation, assist in the body's natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

It is also said to induce deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties, relieve emotional stress, and improve overall wellbeing.

People who receive Reiki describe it as "intensely relaxing."

Conditions that Reiki has been used to help treat include:

According to the University of Minnesota, patients who have undergone a Reiki session may:

  • "I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly."
  • "I think I fell asleep."
  • "I can't believe how hot your hands got!"
  • "I feel more relaxed than even after a massage.
  • "My headache is gone.

"Cancer patients who have Reiki say they feel better after. This may be because it helps them relax. Another reason, according to Cancer Research U.K. could be that the therapist spends time with them and touches them. This has a soothing effect on patients who may be overwhelmed by invasive therapy, fear, and stress.

Individuals report different experiences. Some say that the practitioner's hands become hot, others report cooling hands and some people feel pulsating waves. The most common reports are of a release of stress and deep relaxation.

A Reiki attunement is like a special and very sacred meditation. The purpose of a Reiki attunement is to bring us into a harmonious relationship with the Reiki energy and to help lift the veils and filters we may be holding between our personality/ego and our higher self.

A Reiki attunement is activated by a Reiki master-teacher, who has been trained in the attunement technique, and who shares the process with a person who has the spiritual desire and intention to awaken their inner healing power.

One of the things that take place in a Reiki attunement is that our subtle energy system clears and releases denser energies. Also, our chakras and etheric field are strengthened so that we are capable of receiving and transmitting high-frequency healing light, at will and for extended periods of time.

With the rapid acceptance of Reiki energy by healers around the world, we find that the strength of the energy is increasing exponentially as more people are attuned, or receiving Reiki treatments and Reiki training.

As the strength of Reiki increases, the power of the attunement to clear and fortify our subtle bodies is intensified as well.

Reiki is easy to learn, with only three levels of training to reach the level of Master. The following list describes the three levels of Reiki training. Keep these in mind when training or when looking for a Reiki practitioner:
1st degree: Also called Reiki I or Shoden in Japanese. This is entry-level Reiki training where you study Reiki history, learn how to perform self-Reiki, and how to give Reiki to someone else, and are initiated (attuned) for life to the Reiki energy.

2nd degree: Also called Reiki II or Okuden in Japanese. You learn how to use the first three Reiki symbols and how to perform distant Reiki techniques. You receive further attunements to the Reiki energy. After this class, you are considered a Reiki practitioner.

3rd degree: Also called Reiki III or Shinpiden in Japanese. This is the Master Teacher level of Reiki, and the class may be separated into two parts. You receive the Master Reiki attunement and learn the Master Reiki symbol and how to give the Reiki attunements to others

Reiki treatment
You relax, fully clothed, on a couch or seated while the healer holds his hands on or above you. A treatment can last an hour or longer depending on the treatment required. In the western world, many practitioners use the standard hand positions and commonly a full treatment is given covering all the important organs of the body.
There is no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions, sometimes hands are even held away from the body. The energy flows wherever it is required (spiritually guided) and can normally be felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body. Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing and soothing experience!

Reiki is an effective healing method
Reiki can be used for many ailments like reducing stress, relieving pain, headaches, stomach upsets, back problems, asthma – respiratory problems, PMT, menstrual problems, sinus, anxiety and many more. You can find treatment suggestions for specific problems under the button “How to use Reiki”. (Please observe that Reiki should never be used instead of medical treatment, it should be used as a compliment and a way to become and remain healthy.)

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment or a Reiki attunement. As in any healing, the first step towards a healthier life is a desire to be healed.

Reiki is easy to learn
Anyone can “learn” Reiki. The word learn is not quite right as most of us cannot just read about Reiki and then do it. The ability to use Reiki is normally given via an attunement or initiation. There are 3 levels of Reiki: Reiki 1 and 2 and the Master level. Once attuned Reiki is easy to use and your ability to use Reiki will never leave you!

Reiki will enrich your life and give you happiness and health on all levels.

What is Emotional Processing

Quantum Physics Demonstrates That Vibrations Create Your Reality. Spiritual awareness and human consciousness are changing rapidly.

Metaphysics opened the door to the new understanding that “we create our reality” and now quantum physics scientifically demonstrates that each person is vibrating out energy and causing the finest particles of creation to take form as the people and experiences we interact with.
All Relationships Are a Mirror of Your Relationship with Yourself

This idea gives new meaning to the concept that all relationships are a mirror of your relationship with yourself. This means that the love, joy, and goodness within you will vibrate out and create events and people who bring love, joy, and happiness into your life.

Similarly, if there are subtle parts of your self that you have not learned how to love and accept, they might cause you to feel sad, frustrated or self-critical. Then we will meet situations and events that push your buttons and stimulate negative emotion within you.

You will experience unhealthy relationships with your parents, attract work conditions that are challenging, feel abandoned by your loved ones, and even create a lack of prosperity.
The Child is Feeling, the Adult is Thinking

The root cause of this negative emotion was experienced within us as children, usually between the ages of birth and 7 years of age, when unconditional love and acceptance was withheld by the authority figures around us.

If mother or father were having a bad day and feeling sad, lonely or frustrated then they were emitting negative emotion that would have to impact the vulnerable child.

This is not a judgment upon them but, nevertheless, the child would experience the withholding of love and unconsciously begin to believe that something must be wrong within themselves.

The child is not yet capable of discerning that this is mother and father’s issue because the child does not develop the discerning and discriminating mind until around 7 years of age.

All events within the family unit are interpreted through emotions and feelings. If there is a negative emotion, then the child can only feel that something about them must be unlovable.

Learning and practicing The Golden Light Meditation with the Emotional Clearing techniques will empower you to feel the feelings and transform the negative emotions, thereby having a fulfilling relationship in all areas of your life.
