Fou Gallery is pleased to announce the immersive performance Tracking the White Shadow and culinary experience on Saturday afternoons during artist Han Qin’s solo exhibition Ethereal Evolution. The events will be a feast of art with creative visual, auditory and gustatory experience.

Tracking the White Shadow poetically translates Han Qin’s inspiration and creative process into dance performance. Han’s experiences as an immigrant to the United States have driven her to continuously ponder the interrelation between herself and the world, and seeking a dynamic stability among the transfer of her identities. She began her interdisciplinary practice with musicians and dancers from the Ethereal Evolution series, during which she juxtaposes ideas about scale, causality, and the tradition of drawing with light and shadow. Han invited dancers to share their stories as immigrants with body movements on the pre-coated Pi paper and expose the process to light to create large cyanotypes on paper. She wanted to focus on sociology impact with art-making in which she would explore her migration experience and emotion.

To show the process of making, Han Qin and curator Hai Liang co-designs Tracking the White Shadow, a series of performances that take place on Saturday afternoons during the exhibition. In the performance, improvisational dancers perform on the precoated paper and exposing their body movement to light. By allowing the action of the light to create silhouettes, blurry white shadows appear on the blue paper. Compared to still artworks, immersive performance is a more dynamic art form that freezes the fourth dimension - time. Performer could also have improvisational creations and respond to the surroundings. In this way, every performance is unique and non-repetitive. The audience will travel through the space as dancers move freely and interact with the paper, and witness the creation of a cyanotype on paper. The performers enter gently, and the audience naturally blends into it. Their parallel and intertwined relationship begins and ends naturally. In the exhibition space, the still and dynamic artworks will jointly constitute the best visual expression of Ethereal Evolution.

The performance is also accompanied by a special culinary experience in collaboration with Junzi Kitchen’s chef Lucas Sin. Sin’s practice focuses on the exploration of the change of seasons and the communication between cultures through food. The three-course menu is inspired by the exhibition and enriches the visitors’ experience of art.

Artist: Han Qin (b.1988, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China)

While primarily focusing on digital art, Han’s work also extends to printmaking, video, installation and performance art. She earned her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Printmaking from China Academy of Art (Hangzhou) and her M.F.A. in Digital Arts from Pratt Institute (New York) in 2016. Currently, She lives and works in New York and Hangzhou as an artist, and adjunct professor at Stony Brook University (New York) and China Academy of Art. Han’s work has continued to exhibit in the U.S. and China, including Long Island Biennial, The Heckscher Museum of Art, Huntington, New York (2016, 2018); Open books, Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut (2018); Forms and thoughts: The 8th New Star Art Award Shortlisted Artists' Group Exhibition 2017, Deji Art Museum, Nanjing, China, Han Qin: Where is Home, Long Island Museum, Stony Brook, New York (2017) and Changjiang International Photography & Video Biennale, Changjiang Museum of Contemporary Art, Chongqing, China (2017).

Curator: Hai Liang (b. 1990, Tianjin, China)

Hai earned M.A. from Architectural Association School of Architecture (London) and Master in Design Studies at Harvard University (Boston). Hai collaborated with artists, architects, dancers and musicians to curated immersive exhibitions of performance and installation art in Europe and U.S.A. Her curatorial experiences includes: Zaha Hadid Young Artists Foundation Exhibition (Roca Gallery, London, 2013); Flow Fields – Confluence in Urban Picnic (Matedero, Madrid, 2013); Flow Fields – dilution in 2013 Lisbon Triennale (Sinel de Cordes Palace, Lisbon, 2013); and dual exhibition Fragments of Seas (287 Gallery, New York, 2019).

否画廊将在艺术家韩沁个展《演·化》期间，于每周六下午举行环境舞蹈演出《描摹白影》及创意料理酒会，给观众带来一场视觉、听觉、味觉的全方位艺术盛宴。

即兴环境舞蹈演出《描摹白影》直观而诗意地表达了韩沁创作大幅蓝晒作品的灵感和过程。韩沁的艺术创作充满着社会学意义的思考，蕴含着她的移民经历和情感。她从《演·化》这一系列的作品开始与音乐、舞蹈艺术家进行跨界合作，对创作规模、绘画传统进行了反思与质问，将光与影引入到作品当中。韩沁的旅美经历令她不间断地思考着自身与外界的交互关系，不停从身份的转变中寻求着动态的永恒。在《演·化》系列作品中，韩沁邀请舞者用舞蹈语言表达自己移民来美的心路历程，在预先处理的皮纸上即兴表演，光照下，舞者的肢体动作在纸上自然显影。这个系列的作品悬挂在画廊之中，来访者似乎沉浸于漂浮在虚空之体验中。

为了再现《演·化》系列作品的创作过程，韩沁和策展人海良策划了即兴环境舞蹈演出《描摹白影》。相比相对静止的视觉作品，行为舞蹈表演包含了第四维——时间，一种延长的艺术形式。即兴舞者将在预涂的皮纸上表演，身体的运动轨迹暴露在光线下。曝光作用会令他们的动作在皮纸上留下轮廓，蓝色的纸上逐渐出现空灵模糊的白色影子。舞者在表演中创造更多与场所、环境、氛围有关的即时信息，每一次的表演都是不尽相同、不可重复的体验。这样的演出过程即可被视为艺术形式本身。舞者与观众处于平等的关系，观众被静态的作品所围绕，即兴舞蹈演出这一作品又被观众所围绕，互相交织、彼此渗透的关系完成了作品的浸没式呈现，而动态、伸展的作品同静态、凝固的作品一起，创造了视觉艺术的最佳表达。

《描摹白影》后将进行否画廊与君子主厨Lucas Sin（冼诺扬）合作的创意料理酒会。以食物为媒介，关注、探索和呈现对于时令变换、文化碰撞的感悟，是主厨冼诺扬的主要理念之一。受韩沁作品灵感的启发，冼诺扬设计了三道菜单的创意料理体验，主菜搭配特调酱料。以食物为形式探索韩沁的艺术世界，将令观众们更加完整而新颖地获得独特的艺术体验。《演·化》展览期间的每周六的下午，基于视觉、听觉、味觉……多重感官交织的艺术形式，我们将献上一场五感俱全的艺术盛宴。

艺术家：韩沁（b. 1988, 中国浙江杭州）

韩沁的创作跨越数字艺术、版画和表演艺术等。她在中国美术学院版画专业取得本科和硕士学位，毕业后赴美就读于普拉特艺术学院（Pratt Institute）数字艺术专业，并在2016年取得艺术硕士。目前，她工作和创作于纽约和杭州，在纽约州立大学石溪分校（SUNY Stony Brook）教授数字艺术，并担任中国美术学院客座艺术家。她是纽约艺术基金会移民艺术家导师项目艺术家，作品曾在美国，中国等地广泛展出，近期展览包括：长岛双年展（赫克舍美术馆，亨廷顿，纽约州，2016/2018）；开放的书页（康涅狄克学院图书馆，新伦敦，康涅狄克州，2017）；2017第八届新星星艺术奖展览（德基美术馆，中国南京，2017）；长江国际影像双年展（重庆长江当代美术馆，2017）；韩沁：何处是家（长岛博物馆，石溪，纽约州，2017）。

海良在英国建筑联盟学院(Architectural Association School of Architecture)学习表演艺术和建筑空间设计专业，后在哈佛大学艺术、设计与公共空间专业取得设计学硕士学位。海良主要从事多媒体艺术、行为艺术和装置艺术的策展和展览设计，策展及展览设计经历包括扎哈·哈迪德青年艺术家基金项目展（伦敦罗卡画廊，英国伦敦，2013），马德里城市野餐“流动场域-汇聚”（马特德罗艺术中心，西班牙马德里，2013），里斯本建筑三年展之“流动场域-散灭”（Sinel de Cordes Palace, 葡萄牙里斯本，2013），”海的碎片”双人展（287画廊，美国纽约，2019）等等。
