Tracie McMillan
Event Information
Description
As an undercover reporter, Tracie McMillan saw firsthand how an exploitative system can marginalize laborers and keep whole segments of a nation's population malnourished. Where did she do this muckraking? Right here in the U.S.
It's all chronicled in McMillan's book, The American Way of Eating, which came out last month. An account of her time spent working in California fruit fields, Walmart stockrooms and Applebee's kitchens, McMillan exposes the dirty secrets behind how food gets on your plate. Excerpts have appeared on Slate and this past week the book was reviewed in the New York Times.
And on March 27, at 6:30pm, McMillan will read from and discuss her book at The Storefront for Urban Innovation. We'll only serve local beer and goodies, we swear.
