Event description

Description

Spend an afternoon reclaiming the tradition of sewing toys from the scrap basket. Make a little black crow from discarded fabric with a primitive tattered look. From machine-sewn basic shapes, use classic toymaking techniques to finish and add character to your basic crow. Keep it simple or dig through the stash of provided fabrics and trims to add costumes and accessories to your unique creature. Ages 18+

Impact: A creative use for very small fabric scraps and bits of notions that are diverted from the waste stream. Homemade toys can reduce demand for new consumer goods.

Student Materials & Requirements: Please bring sharp fabric scissors and, if possible, flat-nosed pliers for bending wire feet. Participants will be doing hand sewing and should have some basic level of comfort following along with the pattern and the instructor. Fabric, trim, needles, and thread are provided.

About the Instructor: Pippa became a professional toymaker in the 1970s. Grounded in the English soft-toymaking tradition, her mission is to encourage everyone to feel confident to make more toys at home for and with children, to foster creative life. Learn more at craftdesignworks.com.
