Event description

Description

It's time to detox the home!

Let's get together for a Toxin Free Cleaning Workshop, some cookies (YUM) and herbal tea.

I'll be demonstrating how to make the following super simple, all natural cleaning products;

  1. Surface spray
  2. Soft scrub cleaner for kitchen surfaces, oven tops etc
  3. Refreshing room spray to clear bad pongs/mould
  4. Dishwashing detergent
  5. Loo cleaner

These DIY numbers are:

  1. Safe around the whole family
  2. Natural, yet efficacious - with trusted antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal activity
  3. Easy
  4. Cost effective

We’re starting with the basics with this one, but trust me – you’ll froth over how easy the recipes are to make!

If you're looking to detox your home but don't know where to start, this is the perfect intro. I'll introduce you to essential oils before we begin, speak to the impact household toxins are having on your health, take you through how to make the above products, let you sample all the oils involved, then show you how to get started and join our community at the end.

Take a recipe sheet home with you. Prize draw at the end to take home a couple of the items.

Look forward to sharing with you!

Lauren.

The products in your cleaning cabinets have everything to do with sore throats, irritated eyes, asthma, migraines, nausea, hormonal dysregulation and organ stress.

Ditching commercial cleaners and detoxing your cabinets is a form of preventative, empowered health care – as chronic exposure to harmful chemicals acts as a stressor on the body, contributing to imbalances and disease states.

The chemicals in these products are well-known endocrine (hormone) disruptors, so if you are in preconception mode – get them out of your environment STAT and replace the products they were in with natural alternatives as best you can.

They are also incredibly difficult to break down, so linger in the environment. This is true not just for end use, but in the actual manufacture of the products – chemical waste is dumped into local waterways, where they create persistent organic pollutants (POPs) like dioxins, taking years to disappear.

In fact, because these POPs are impossible to break down, they bioaccumulate in the fat tissue of humans and animals. The half-life of dioxins in the body is 7-11 years! [Source].

Back to our discussion on chemicals in cleaning products – these too accumulate in the body, which, in its efforts to store them out of harm’s way, sees them shuttled into fat cells.

This is problematic as some of the most vulnerable parts of our bodies contain fatty tissue (the brain, breasts and abdominal area - in close proximity to vital organs).

The worst offenders in household cleaning products are a dangerous group of chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

VOCs are found in aerosol spray products, air fresheners, detergent and dishwashing liquid, degreasers, oven cleaners, carpet cleaners, furniture polish, disinfectants, antibacterial soaps and more (they’re also widespread in beauty and personal care products, a discussion for another time).

VOCs are released into the air as you clean, which is a huge issue as they are well known for causing irritation to the eyes, throat and lungs. They have been linked with asthma, headaches, migraines and nausea. Possible longer-term effects include liver, kidney, and central nervous system damage, hormonal dysregulation, infertility and cancer.

VOC levels indoors can reach 2-5 times that of outdoors – indoor air is much more polluted than outdoor air!

Further to this, this group of chemicals are hazardous to children or pets – accidental ingestion can lead to poisoning and death. They contain words like ‘Danger’, ‘Warning’, ‘Caution’ or ‘Poison’ for a reason!
