The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals invites you to attend our Second Quarter Chapter meeting on 

June 6, 2017 at Wilde Rover Irish Pub in Kirkland.


 

FEATURED SPEAKER:

Dr. Holly Davies

Senior Scientist

Washington State Department of Ecology

 

Dr. Davies is a senior toxicologist with the Washington State Department of Ecology, where she coordinates Ecology’s policy on toxic substances. Her work involves protecting human health and the environment from harmful chemicals, especially persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic chemicals (PBTs).

Before joining the Washington Department of Ecology, Dr. Davies worked in academic teaching and research in genetics and developmental biology. Dr. Davies received a B.S. in Biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1993 and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA in 2000.

 

PROGRAM:

Preventing and Reducing Toxic Threats:

Washington’s Strategy on Toxic Chemicals of Emerging Concern

 

Prevention, management, and cleanup work together to protect human health and the environment. Dr. Davies will describe why prevention is important and how the Department of Ecology works to gather information on toxic threats, regulate specific products, phase out the use of the worst chemicals with chemical action plans, and promote the generation and use of safer alternatives. Come find out which fast food wrappers have fluorinated coatings and what Ecology does to keep cadmium out of children’s toys, and what exciting things are happening at the state legislature.

 **Please note we will be holding our meeting on the Eastside in Kirkland. **
