This one day symposium is the first in a series of two events which will explore and connect inclusion health teaching in medical school curricula with examples and suggestions for excellence in policy and practice, and the ways in which healthcare professionals can learn from members of diverse inclusion health communities about their experience of accessing healthcare. Both events will bring together medical school professionals working in the field of inclusion health training and teaching with NGO and civil society experts who support inclusion health communities.

This first symposium in the series (free to attend) is focused on the training and work of health professionals and aims to expose participants to discussion and engagement with the wider socio-political domains of social exclusion and responses from the health system in the UK and beyond. Importantly it seeks to create a safe space for collaboration and capacity building by fostering conversations between medical school professionals delivering inclusion health teaching and leading training activities in primary and secondary care settings, medical students at ARU and Junior Doctors from Broomfield Hospital (Chelmsford), and facilitating meaningful dialogue between professionals at all stages of their medical career and attendees from ‘inclusion health’ engaged civil society organisations. It will also provide a chance to hear about our on-going research project which explores these themes as well as an opportunity to discuss some initial findings.

The second symposium in the series (Autumn 2023) will focus on hearing about the experiences of inclusion health community members and those organisations who support them.

Symposium Location/Venue

The symposium will take place at ARU Chelmsford in Essex. There is the option for you to join us in person for the symposium or online as a remote attendee. Please select your preferred option when registering for the event.

The venue for the symposium is the Marconi Building, which you can find listed as 'MAR' on the campus map.

Travelling to the Venue

Chelmsford train station is around 35 mins from London Liverpool Street/30 mins from Stratford

There is no parking for symposium attendees at the ARU Chelmsford campus. Chelmsford has a Park and Ride. There is a public car park nearby to the campus. There is more information here from ARU about travelling to the Chelmsford Campus.
