Program

“Watch out, Soukouyan” is a workshop to learn everything about the Soukounyan, a Caribbean myth and creature haunting children’s dreams in some Caribbean countries, and to create a storyboard for an animated film. The workshop will be led by Guillaume Lorin, cartoonist and film director from Guadeloupe, who realized the animated movie Vanille (about a Parisian mixed-girl flying for the first time to Guadeloupe and meeting with a Soukounyan - to be distributed soon on TV5; trailer available in English and French).
The workshop will start with a unique tour of Édouard Duval-Carrié’s studio, a Haitian-American artist who created a series on Soukounyan and who will share his secrets about the realization of this series.

Part One - 10:30AM-11.30AM: visiting the studio of Edouard Duval-Carrié to discover his latest painting series on “Soukounyan” and draw some first inspirations about this creature. Edouard Duval-Carrié will explain about his own inspirations and resources for this work.

Part Two - 11.30AM - 12.30PM: Presentation and screening of an extract of the animated film Vanille- Work in progress. Showing an example of the fabrication process from the Storyboard to the animation.
