Clearing the rubble of the former Warsaw Ghetto in 1950, a Polish construction worker unearthed a large can containing the wartime writings of Rabbi Kalonymus Kalmish Shapiro. Published in Israel under the title Aish Kodesh, these writings provide real-time information regarding how religious Jews related to the unfolding horrors of the Holocaust.
Dr. Abramson will present research in progress from his forthcoming mongraph on the history of Hasidic Jewry in Warsaw under the Nazi Occupation. The first Avenue J Faculty Colloquium is open to all members of the Touro College Community.
