Peachtree Road wasn't designed, it just happened. As Atlanta grew, so did Peachtree. Today Peachtree Road from Brookwood to Buckhead is a pedestrian-unfriendly suburban arterial, with chaotic traffic and land use. In the words of a long-time resident, "it's become the Wild West." Just crossing the street has become an urban adventure.
The Buckhead Community Improvement District wants to change that. Their Peachtree transformation proposal would create an attractive complete street by adding medians for people to cross more safely, granite curb, hardwood trees, seasonal color landscaping, wide sidewalks, modern lighting, buried utility lines, street furniture, dedicated left turn lanes at signaled intersections to ease traffic congestion. The project will also add bike lanes.
Join us for a ride-along with Buckhead CID Executive Director Jim Durrett to learn all about the project, or join up with the group for lunch afterwards.
