Description

Public Art of the University of Houston System hosts free Public Art Tours on the first Wednesday of each month. These tours will alternate between University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, and the University of Houston Sugar Land. Each iteration of the tour will vary featuring select artworks led by public art staff and guest tour guides. The walk will begin with a brief welcome and introduction of the day's tour. Participants are encouraged to wear walking shoes and bring water.

Please meet in front of the Bayou Building. Visitor parking can be found across the street from the Bayou Building.


Information on Guest Tour Guide: Jason Makepeace

Born in Virginia but raised in North Carolina, Professor Makepeace attended the College of Charleston, where he received a Bachelor of Art degree with a Minor in Art History (1997). During his time in South Carolina, he also studied abroad in Cortona, Italy through a program with the University of Georgia. In 1999, he was accepted to the University of Houston’s Master of Fine Arts program and received an M.F.A. degree in 2002. In the fall of 2014, Professor Makepeace was hired as the Assistant Professor of Sculpture by the University Houston-Clear Lake. Currently, he is the faculty member in charge of the sculpture area and director of the Art and Design program. Professor Makepeace will submit his promotion and tenure application for Associate Professor of Sculpture this September of 2018.
