Event Details

The PEO tour will be at PowerStream’s head office located at 161 Cityview Boulevard in Vaughan. Please meet in room 101 at 3 pm sharp for a tour of both facilities.

Control Room Tour

PowerStream is the second largest municipally-owned electricity distribution company in Ontario, delivering power to more than 365,000 customers residing or owning a business in communities located immediately north of Toronto and in Central Ontario. PowerStream’s System Control Room monitors and operates the distribution system consisting of 2,500 kms of overhead circuits, 5,000 kms of underground cable, 41,000 poles, 1,800 switchgear units, 11 transformer stations and 54 municipal substations.

Micro Grid Demonstration Tour

PowerStream is implementing a new Micro Grid demonstration system, which draws electricity from existing assets – a solar array, a wind turbine, a natural-gas generator, a lead acid battery and a lithium battery – in order to provide electricity from loads such as lighting, air conditioning and refrigeration at its head office location. Electricity generated from this combination of clean and renewable sources will also be used to power the company’s electric vehicle charging stations (which energize the company’s fleet of electric vehicles) and to maintain a steady charge in the Micro Grid’s storage batteries.

Our host is Gerry Reesor, P.Eng. and is a Stations Engineer at PowerStream Inc. He has responsibility for design and construction of PowerStream’s transformer station projects. Gerry has an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Western Ontario and is a member of York Chapter. He has more than twenty years of utility and industrial transformer station experience.

Guests of engineers are also welcomed. Please use this as an opportunity to network with other engineers.
Sign up soon as tours tend to fill up quickly.
