Description

Register and make plans for our annual FreeWalkers tour in greater Boston. This year our route will start in Lincoln near Lexington and include historic Minuteman National Park and trails including the area around the town of Concord. This event is FREE and open to everyone. Be prepared to walk at least 11 miles with your option to see and walk more.

Discover the area’s rich colonial, revolutionary and intellectual history while its enjoying its natural beauty as we walk through -- and detour from -- the Minute Man National Historical Park. This walk recounts the history of the 1775 “shot heard round the world” as local farmers battled the British army; the homes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott and other literary figures of the American transcendentalist movement, as well as their final resting place on Authors Ridge at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery; the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge; the historic town center of Concord; and a possible “amble” to Walden Pond. Walk along park trails; paths through woods, wetlands and meadows; and local streets.

Basic Loop Walk - 11 miles for round trip along the Minute Man National Historical Park route, with several historic houses/museums and Concord Center en route

Option #1 - + 3.6 miles to include a Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery loop

Option #2 - + 3.7 miles to include a round trip to Walden Pond (+1.8 miles around)
