ABOUT TOUR DE FARM 2013
A fantastic weekend of food, farms, cycling and fun is scheduled for this year's Tour de Farm in Southwest Georgia. We hope you will join us. Tour de Farm 2013 will feature tours at White Oak Pastures, Richland Rum, President Jimmy Carter's Boyhood Farm (an National Park Service site), Koinonia Farm and Cafe Campesino. Particpants will arrive in Americus on Friday afternoon and be shuttled (with gear & bikes) to White Oak Pastures in Bluffton. Cycling lovers will rejoice for Saturday's ride- 60 miles of countryside cycling with several food stops along the way (including lunch) and a rum tasting, distillery tour and annual barbeque festival (Pigfest) waiting at the end of the day's ride in Richland. Transportation options for low-intensity cyclists will also be an option on Saturday (ie- if the thought of 60 miles makes you crazy-nervous, there will be transporation available to get you -and your bike- to Richland). Sunday will continue the fun as participants will ride from Richland to Plains to visit President Carter's Boyhood home, to Koinonia Farm and finally end at Cafe Campesino. Cafe Campesino will host an end-of-ride party for participants- complete with food and music. Discounted rates at local hotels will be available to riders who are interested in spending Sunday night in Americus. Join us!
FRIDAY, NOV. 8: Arrive in Americus; Supper in Bluffton
Afternoon: arrive in Americus
3:30 p.m.: Shuttle Riders & Gear to Bluffton
4:30 p.m.: Arrive White Oak Pastures in Bluffton
Evening: White Oak Pastures Tour & Meat & Greet Supper
Supper-only tickets also available for those not participating in the ride.

Morning: Breakfast at White Oak
12 p.m.: Lunch at Train Depot in Shellman
Afternoon: Richland Rum Tour & Tasting

SUNDAY, NOV. 10: Plains, Koinonia & Party at Cafe Campesino
Morning: Breakfast in Richland
10 a.m.: President Carter’s Boy Hood Farm
12 p.m.: Lunch at Koinonia + Farm Tour
3:30 p.m.: End-of-Ride Party at Café Campesino/Participants return to their cars
A special rate at local hotels will be available for Tour de Farm participants.
Route: about 40 miles
*The route has been finalized!
*For those who so wish, there will be indoor sleeping options available on Saturday in Richland, so bring an air mattress if you want a cushy night's sleep. Friday night camping will be outdoors, though, so bring your tent.
*Electricity will be available at Richland Park on Saturday night.
*Bring extra cash! We'll be going to White Oak Pastures, Merrit Pecan Co. and General Store, and the Richland Pig Fest. We'll also be passing by a 65-mile yardsale. Other than at White Oak Pastures, purchases will need to be small enough to carry with you.
*Bring a cooler to leave at Cafe Campesino for meat purchases from White Oak Pastures. We'll have a freezer truck to store meat in until we get back on Sunday.
*Americus Brew Club and music from The Biggest Band in the Land will be featured at the End-of-Ride Party on Nov. 10 at Cafe Campesino!
*Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available!
*Showers will only be available on Saturday night in Richland.

Cafe Campesino, Sumter Cycling, Georgia Organics, River Valley Regional Commission
Cafe Campesino is a 100% Fair Trade, organic coffee company that is committed to sustainable food systems in Georgia and around the world. It is based in Americus, Georgia, and has been a member of Georgia Organics since 2000 and a Bicycle Ride Across Georgia supporter and coffee vendor for more than 10 years. Cafe Campesino wants to see the cycling and "good food" movements grow in Southwest, Georgia, and it hopes that this event will help generate support for both.
For more than a decade, Georgia Organics has served as the premier organization in Georgia, and arguably in the Southeast, addressing sustainable food and farm issues. Its core programs include growing more sustainable and organic growers by providing education, technical assistance, and marketing support; implementing farm-to-school programs at district and statewide levels; linking consumers with farmers; and advocating for policies that increase the supply, access and consumption of local and organically grown foods in Georgia.
Sumter Cycling is Sumter County's local cycling organization that encourages bicycle use in Americus and around Sumter county. Its founders were integeral in getting cycling routes mapped and road signs installed along roads in the county. The organization is increasing its outreach to local citizens, organizing training rides in prepartion for 2013 Tour de Farm. It also co-organizes the annual Prison-to-Peanuts ride that travels from Andersonville to Americus to Plains in April.
River Valley Regional Commission
The River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) is a planning and economic development agency based in Columbus that supports 16 counties and local goverments in Southwest Georgia. It functions to help develop and maintain the highest possible living standards and quality of life for residents in its region. RVRC is integral in planning and hosting Tour de Farm as well as the annual Prison-to-Peanuts ride that his held in April.
