Description

Tough Conversations in Tough Times

In light of the growing issues, concerns, and debates presented in media and schools, young people are faced with difficult conversations and interactions with peers, families and even strangers. The concern is whether young people have a safe and supportive environment to discuss and explore their thoughts and opinions in a constructive way. The goal of this workshop will be to explore best practices in nurturing, encouraging and developing conversations with middle and high school youth around sensitive and challenging topics, including race and immigration policies. Lastly, we will explore how to empower and motivate young people to take a proactive role in effecting change within their communities and schools.

This session is part of our Safe Community Series, aimed to provide staff with tools and practices for cultivating a safe environment for youth and responding to challenging situations.
