Event description

Watch the Great American Eclipse along the Path of Totality, the celestial event of a lifetime! Our action packed 7 day adventure of touring a few awe inspiring national parks and the great American West will be full of excitement!

This small group tour package will be a once in a lifetime experience! At least 4 unique excursions, 3 national parks, 2 breathtaking hikes, and 1 amazingly awe inspiring natural phenomenon... all in 7 action-packed days!

The Great American Eclipse is the first time in 99 years that the sun has been completely blocked by the moon as it crosses the entire continental United States from coast to coast! It is predicted to be the most widely viewed total solar eclipse in history.

From many points of view, the moon's shadow will race across the landscape at approximately 1,000 miles per hour, as the moon moves in front of the sun, eventually blotting it out and sending everything into complete darkness in the middle of the day.

Be part of what is sure to be a legendary event as we watch this awe inspiring spectacle and all the uniquely tantalizing sensations that it has to offer from the Path of Totality, where we will enjoy over two minutes of complete eclipse totality.

Along with the must-see event, this tour package will be touring through three national parks: Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky Mountain.

While taking in the amazing scenery, we will also be participating in some unique excursions, such as a Pioneer covered wagon trail ride, camping in a Native American tipi village, whitewater rafting, a stargazing cookout, wildlife viewing, a picnic in a geyser basin, swimming in hot springs, at least two breathtaking hikes, a dinosaur fossil hunt, and more!

Don't delay because space is very limited, as this is a small group tour for a more intimate and personal experience. See the itinerary and pricing below, then reserve your spot today!

Total Eclipse of the Park 2017

Day 1 – August 16

We start our journey at Denver Int’l Airport, departing at 12:15 pm towards the beautiful northern Front Range city of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Medicine Bow National Forest will be to the west of us as we drive up past Laramie, moving closer to our first adventure in Casper, Wyoming. We will learn about life on the range as the indigenous tribes and frontier pioneers of old lived, complete with a Dutch Oven & Skillet cookout for dinner.

We spend the night sharing stories around a campfire with the star-filled sky above, where we will sleep in a cozy
Tipi village, each made up with air mattresses, pillows, and sleeping bags.

Day 2 – August 17

Wake up to a frontier sunrise breakfast and be sure to fuel up for a day full of amazing views as we cover a lot of ground through Wyoming. We will start by 9 am, setting out across the plains and driving up past the Wind River Reservation into Thermopolis for a glimpse of the geothermal wonders that lie ahead in the park.

After taking in the colorful displays of nature at Hot Springs State Park, guests can choose to bathe in the healing waters of the area’s mineral springs that have soothed and relieved for thousands of years.

After this restorative experience, we will leave behind the smoother and more level terrain of the Great Plains and continue into the Wind River Mountains for an evening of fun and western small town recreation in Dubois where there will be plenty of saloons and dining for the choosing.

Day 3 – August 18

Fuel up for an action-packed day in both Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks! We will set out at 8:30 am westward into the delightfully dense Bridger Teton National Forest, which is full of wildlife and fauna to look out for on our way into the park. As we arrive in the lush Snake River Valley near Jackson Hole, we will have our first striking encounter with the majestic Teton mountain range, its carving peaks dramatically jutting up into the vast Wyoming sky.

Our next big adventure starts in Jackson Hole as we have a quick lunch (not included) and prepare for our heart-pumping whitewater rafting trip down the historic Snake River where we will slide down mostly class II-III rapids (maybe class IV rapids depending on the water level and timing).

After this exhilarating start to our afternoon, we will embark on a breathtaking trip up to our lodge in Big Sky, Montana through Yellowstone. Along the way, we will be captivated by the scenery and natural wonders unique to the greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. We will have an opportunity to see amazing wildlife such as bears, wolves, elk, bison, mountain lions, and pronghorn, among others, so we will keep our eyes peeled as we drive along northbound in hopes of catching a glimpse.

We will also stop at the wildly popular Upper Geyser Basin, home to Old Faithful and many more, where we will have a chance to witness an eruption, an experience that harkens back to a primordial state of the earth. While there, we will take a hike off the beaten path for a picnic, careful not to attract any Yogi or Boo Boo bears.

When we arrive that night at our private accommodations at Spruce Cone Lodge in Big Sky, we will be ready to enjoy the peace and quiet of this fantastic remote retreat in the countryside, as we crawl into our cozy beds for a much-deserved sleep.

Day 4 – August 19

This special day will start out with an early morning drive down into West Yellowstone with more opportunities to see the unique and majestic wildlife that calls this beautiful land its home. Our first stop will be the world-famous Mammoth Hot Springs with its picturesque geothermal formations and scalding hot waters. After this unique spectacle, we will continue on towards Lamar Valley where many species of wildlife frequent, taking our opportunities to stop and view them so that we can snap photos and marvel at them.

For lunch (not included), we arrive in the town made famous by its namesake, “Buffalo Bill” Cody. After spending a little time taking in this charming cowboy town, we will head out for an amazing afternoon driving into through the eastern side of Yellowstone Nat’l Park where will have a chance to see more wildlife, beautiful mountain scenery, and picturesque valleys and canyons, complete with waterfalls and a lovely evening hike.

Upon returning to our lodge at Big Sky, we can cut loose and enjoy the stunningly vast skies that are perfectly made for stargazing.

Day 5 – August 19

Whether you prefer to keep the action going or just take some time to recharge at the scenic lodge with some rest and quiet, this day is meant for you to choose your own adventure. There are some activities close by in Big Sky that can be planned, or perhaps get into town for some shopping.

If the nature of your surroundings is too much to resist and you wish to power on, we will be returning to Yellowstone for optional activities that guests may add at either Gardiner, Mammoth Hot Springs, West Yellowstone, or Yellowstone Lake. There will be several options available for more fun and excitement to be had each day.

Day 6 – August 21

The big day is upon us and it requires an early departure, which will be well worth the effort, as we make our way into the best eclipse viewing area possible. The exact location will be determined the night before to allow for the best possible viewing weather.

Once we arrive at the chosen location, we will set up and chat about the amazingly unique celestial experience we are about to have. The partial blotting out of the sun will begin in the early 10 o’clock hour and will continue until the moon is completely blocking the sun, save the corona that is surrounding the eerie silhouette. As this happens, we will have a chance to see the moon’s shadow racing across the landscape towards us at around 1,000 miles per hour, a sensation that is unlike any other and remarkably intimidating.

The awe-striking spectacle of complete darkness during the middle of the day will last for approximately 2 minutes and around 20 seconds, which will be followed by more partial solar blotting, giving us enough light to pack up and set off for lunch in Jackson (not included). After spending a couple of hours poking around in this quaint city nestled in a magnificent valley with mountains all around, we drive out along the Green River towards Utah, stopping along the way for more pictures and stretch breaks.

After passing by Flaming Gorge into the Ashley National Forest along the Utah border, we will arrive in Vernal for a nice reflective evening. We can take some time to share a nice time winding down in this quaint Dinosaurland town as we prepare for one last action packed day.

Day 7 – August 22

On our final day together, we get an early start again, as we hit the road at 7:30 am for a journey back in time as we visit Dinosaur Nat’l Monument which lies on the border of Utah and Colorado. This special park is the site of our final adventure, an expedition to see fossils and artifacts from the indigenous tribes of the region, along with a special hike and a scenic drive.

After touring through this special place and learning some fun facts about the ancient history it has to offer, we will head eastward towards the spectacular mountain scenery, where we will cross the continental divide one last time in Rocky Mountain National Park.

We will drive into the park atop one of the highest paved roads in the United States, the iconic Trail Ridge Road, which rises up to an elevation of 12,183 feet. Our path along the highest continuous auto road in the country will hug the peaks and drop down along hair-raising switchbacks, as we stop at some of the pullouts for the opportunity to take in breathtakingly sharp, vertical views of the majestic Rockies.

If time permits, we will stop for a high-altitude hike along the way and take in as much as possible before making our decent towards Denver via Estes Park.

We expect to be back in Denver in the evening and able to drop off at Denver Int’l Airport by 6:30 pm, or allow us to deliver you in closer to the city. After seven days of unique, awe-inspiring experiences, recovery in Denver may be in order!
