Description

Come join Aflac Torrance at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on October 22nd! The walk starts at 8am, but check-in is at 7am. The cost is $50 which includes a swag bag full of goodies! Additional donations are gladly accepted. We can't wait to walk with you!!

Why we are walking to fight breast cancer:

One of the hardest call I have ever received in my life was a call from my Mom (Nafisa Rahman) telling me she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast Cancer. I will never forget that call, it seemed like everything around me stopped and for once in my life I was at a lost for word. I didn’t know what to do or what to say and I was 1500 miles away. One thing I know I needed to do was to be strong; which was the hardest thing to do at that moment. All I wanted to do was be with her and give her a big hug. When something like this happens you find out how strong your support system is. Chris Hager (my Boss) found out and bought me the first ticket out of California to Houston so I could be with my mom. My team, which I just took over, supported me so much at that moment. My leadership team (David Hernandez, Stephanie Galloway, Mykisha Thomas and Cameron Bell) kicked it into the next gear and picked up all my responsibility and told me to leave. Brittany, my everything, was there to give me a hug and tell me everything would be OKAY. My friends from all over called and sent me text and put my mom in their prayers. Everyone came together so I could be with my mom.

I got to Houston and the first thing I wanted to do was quit and move back to Houston. I told my mom what my plan was and she flat out told me “NO”. She told me that “May 2nd will not define our lives and that it was hurdle we will jump over together”. The amount of strength and fight I have seen from my MOM in the last 5 months is UNBELIEVABLE. She is my Super Hero!! She has given me a new outlook on how I take on each day and this is something I share with my team. Cancer SUCKS but it doesn’t have to define you, it is a hurdle you jump through as a team. The message I want to tell my MOM is, May 2nd has defined me; It has made me a better person, it has made me a stronger person and it has made me a more aware person. People every day get the call that I received on May 2nd and just like me it is the hardest call they have received. Breast Cancer affects a lot of people out there and I wanted to do something this year to bring more awareness to this. The solution I came up with was to be involved with Susan G Komen. Cancer is a team fight! So I am asking you to join my team in this Fight.

My team and I will be walking at the Susan G Komen in Irvine, CA on October 22nd to raise money and awareness about Breast Cancer. The money that is raised at this event will be donated to Susan G Komen to continue research to find a Cure for this disease. I appreciate you reading my story and would love any amount of donation you would like to make for this Great Cause.

Lastly I love you MOM thank you for being the rock in my life and the superstar you are. You have always been my inspiration and THANK YOU so much for being an amazing MOM and role model.
