Sydney – London – New York

Topos Seminar 2011 with speakers from Sydney, London and New York including the Award Ceremony for the Topos Landscape Award 2011

Topos Landscape Award winner 2011

Topos is happy to announce that the Topos Landscape Award 2011 goes to the German landscape architect and professor Antje Stokman.

Antje Stokman will receive the Topos Landscape Award 2011 primarily for her commitment to multi-thematic work and her achievements in various planning groups, where she has been successful in gaining support from experts in technical disciplines for landscape architecture. Her ability to motivate enables her to get things done. On a secondary level this award emphasises the fact that complex eco-systemic tasks today need to be resolved with multi-disciplinary approaches and that capable landscape architects – and above all female landscape architects – can play a leading role in this effort.

Antje Stokman studied landscape architecture in Hanover and Edinburgh, and had teaching posts and research projects in Hanover, Berlin, Hamburg, Beijing and Shanghai. She worked as a landscape architect in China before becoming a junior professor at Leibniz University Hanover with the focus of her work on ecosystem design and watershed management. Since 2005 she was a member of Studio Urbane Landschaften, an interdisciplinary platform for research, study and planning, founded by Hille von Seggern. Since 2010 she has been partner in the firm osp urbanelandschaften, together with Sabine Rabe. The firm is based in Hamburg and works with landscape architecture as well as city and regional planning.

She has been head of the Institute of Landscape Planning and Ecology at the University of Stuttgart since 2010 with the two core areas of ecosystem design and landscape analysis.

Award Ceremony and Seminar

This year, in cooperation with the 48th IFLA World Congress (27 - 29 June 2011), the Topos Seminar 2011 and the Topos Landscape Award 2011 ceremony will be held in Zurich. The event will be titled Sydney – London – New York, the same heading as the Topos anniversary issue 75, which will be published mid-June.

Proposals and projects will be discussed with reference to the three global cities, and the challenges they face together as they will all be affected by rising sea levels.
