Description

Topaz Museum Grand Opening

75 years after Executive Order 9066 uprooted all Japanese Americans from their homes on the West coast, the Topaz Museum will officially open its doors and tell the story of 11,000 of those people who were falsely accused of being a threat during WWII and sent to Topaz.

We invite you to attend the July 7-8, 2017 Grand Opening of the Topaz Museum located in Delta, Utah. Don Tamaki, civil rights attorney who served on the Korematsu case legal team, and Dr. Franklin Odo, former director of the Asian Pacific American Program at the Smithsonian Institution and Visiting Professor at Amherst College, will be the featured speakers. Shirley Muramoto will perform traditional koto music.

Register separately for two nights in the Salt Lake City Sheraton at a special rate of $119 per night.

On Friday evening there is a reception, dinner, and program at the hotel. (See ticket packages below.)

Register for all events for the Grand Opening in addition to the room reservations.

Program:

Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. a reception and dinner program will be held at the hotel.

On Saturday morning, charter buses will depart from the Sheraton at 7:30am for the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Delta. Visit with friends on the way to the Grand Opening program at the Delta High School, 50 West 300 North.

The day-long program will include the Grand Opening Ceremony, shuttles* to the Topaz camp site, the play “E.O. 9066” by the San Francisco troupe Lunatique Fantastique, an art show, and tours of the newly installed exhibits in the Topaz Museum.

The buses will leave Delta around 6:00 pm to return to the Salt Lake Sheraton.

The Grand Opening package covers two days and includes the Friday night reception and dinner, the round-trip bus ride from Salt Lake to Delta, the Saturday programs, lunch and box lunch for the return trip to Salt Lake, and admission to the new Topaz Museum.

*Due to time constraints, the shuttle to the Topaz site will go to the monument and not to individual blocks. If you would like a personal tour of a particular block on Sunday or Monday, July 9 or 10, please make a reservation prior to July 7 by e-mailing: topazmuseum@frontiernet.net

You must register to be admitted to the programs on Saturday and the exhibits in the Topaz Museum.
