Top of Texas Barber Battle & Expo is an annual event that has grown in interest each year. The opportunity local barbers & cosmetologist get expose to will empower barbers & cosmetologist to reach their full potential not only in the latest styles but by promoting professional growth. Proper advertising has proven year after year to be a key component attracting patrons. Television, radio, social media outlets allow news of the event to reach a target audience. BATTLE DESCRIPTION/RULES: 2017

MOHAWK or FOHAWK STYLE (30 min)

You get 30 min. Best HAWK you can. (Design optional but will be judged)

Contestant will be judged and scored on the following:

• Degree of difficulty (hair length, shear techniques if needed, etc.) (5pts)

• Precision of Part and Edge Up (a.k.a Outline) (5pts)

• Styling Techniques (Blow drying, Products applied, Finishing touch, etc.) (5pts)

• Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

• Total look of model when completed (5pts)

• Blend / Graduation of Haircut (5pts)

*Colors and Enhancements can be used, but judges must be notified before you add to model.

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (30pts)

Student Competition (45 min)

You get 45 min. Make it count. You can do whatever you want anything goes. Contestant will be judged and scored on the following:

Creative Haircut & Style (anything goes) (30 min)

You get 30 min. Make it count. You can do whatever you want anything goes. Contestant will be judged and scored on the following: (Must do a Haircut)

• Precision of Part and Edge Up (a.k.a Outline) (5pts)

• Styling Techniques (Blow drying, Products applied, Finishing touch, etc.) (5pts)

• Blend / Graduation of Haircut (5pts)

FREE-STYLE DESIGN (40 Minutes)

Each competitor has 40 minutes to complete a freestyle design. Haircut included, but if not cut will be deductions. (totally of your head no phones no copying others ideas), and will be judged and scored on the following:

Difficulty of Cut/Hair Texture (5pts)

Precision of outline itself (5pts)

Precision of letters and or design (Must be legible, No cuts) (5pts)

Blend / Graduation of Haircut (5pts)

Originality (Have we seen this before?) (5pts)

Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

Total look of model when completed (5pts)

DUPLICATE DESIGN (45 Minutes)

Each competitor has 45 minutes to complete a design duplication.

*Haircut is optional but not required to do on stage, but must be done.

Competition will be judged and scored on the following:

Degree of difficulty (Amount of technique used, speed, & efficiency) (5pts)

Precision of outline itself (5pts)

Precision of design/letters/portrait (5pts)

(Must be legible and recognizable)

Features, Scale & Proportion (Does it look right?) (5pts)

Professionalism (appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

Total look of model when completed (5pts)

Speed/Techniques (5pts)

Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (30pts)

CONTESTANTS WILL BE JUDGE ON SPEED AND FINISHED PRODUCT / HAIRCUT MODEL MUST HAVE A 2 ½ OR HIGHER ON THE TOP AND THE TOP MUST BE TAKEN DOWN TO A MAXIMUM OF 1 ½

NOTE: POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY PREPARED.

Student may compete with professionals. (at your own risk) (all competitors must bring their own models) Both Competitor & Model(s) must be checked in and paid by 12pm deadline on 8/13/2017

Traditional with Beard (45 min)

Each competitor has 45 minutes to complete Traditional Haircut with a Beard. (Everything must be groomed)

*must incorporate some type of SCISSOR CUTTTING (Comb over, part & comb, Pomp, D.A.)

Competition will be judged and scored on the following:

1. Difficulty of cut/Hair texture (5pts)

2. Outline/Edge-up/Part (5pts)

3. Precision of blend (5pts)

4. Shear Work (any texture) (5pts)

5. Facial Hair grooming (5pts)

6. Professionalism (Appearance of tools, sanitation, etc) (5pts)

7. Total look of model when completed (5pts)

HIGHEST POSSIBLE TOTAL POINTS: (35pts)

POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY PREPARED
