Who should attend?

Communities affected by the 2013 floods, including local government staff and elected officials, and community-based partner organizations. Other local governments and community-based organizations throughout Colorado are welcome to participate remotely via the internet, and in person if space is available.   This training will be recorded and broadcast live on the internet via Livestream at http://bit.ly/1dAsH0c

Topics to be covered:

  •  Principles of effective public engagement

      What is public engagement?

      Why involve the public?

      Key considerations

      Mapping public engagement to the decision-making process

  • Tools and techniques appropriate for different levels of public engagement

      Inform

      Collaborate

  • How to integrate informed decision-making into the process
  • Special considerations for community engagement during disaster recovery


The training will be casual and interactive, with plenty of time for questions and answers throughout.


Flood-affected communities will also have the opportunity to sign up for phone consultation with PlaceMatters on topics such as:

  • Key points in a community’s decision-making process for engaging the public;
  • The appropriate level of public engagement at each point;
  • Given limited resources, the most appropriate suite of tools and techniques for engaging the public while making informed and timely decisions.
