Router Table in Action

Description:

The Router table is a very versatile tool in any woodshop. It can be used to cut a variety of edge profiles, duplicate patterns, and make dados. This class will cover the safe use of the router table for several common operations. At the end of the class students will have hands on experience flush trimming pieces, profiling edges, and cutting dados and rabbets, and be ready to use the router table independently as members at Artisan's Asylum.

In the first session we will cover the safe operation of the router table. Students will practice different cuts, changing router bits, and making accurate adjustments to the router table. In the second class we will practice using a pattern to make a small hardwood cutting board. The cutting board will utilize tongue and groove joints, pattern routing, and edge profiling. In the third session students will get tested out on the tool, to verify their comfort using the tool without supervision as members of the Asylum or in their own shops.

Class Goals:Router Table Project

At the end of the second class students should have a good understanding of how to safely set up a router table for basic operations. They will know how to change router bits, adjust the router table, and pick the right router bit for a particular cut. The students will have the confidence and skills to add profiles, dados, and other details to their own projects using the router table.

By the end of the three weeks, students will be fully tested out and ready to use the router table without supervision as members at Artisan's Asylum or in their own shops!
