Event description

Description

Learn about the challenges of homelessness and how the region of San Diego can address the issue.

This may just be one of the toughest conversations to have. The newly released documentary, Tony, will serve as focus of a larger conversation facilitated by various leaders tackling this issue head on, including Tony himself and the filmmaker, Dennis Stein. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, we invite you to come and share your perspective.

Goals:

1. To better understand the homeless issue in San Diego.

2. To become familiar with the Regional Community Plan to End Homelessness

3. To promote advocacy, aligned to the Community Plan, which even an individual can contribute to.

  • Get involved: Form the words of Dennis’ mouth, “Go to the RTFH meetings. Come early. Stay late. Talk to people. These are the people planning a truly transformative system of housing and services that can address homelessness for decades to come.”

  • Advocate: Do your homework. Read the Community Action Plan and try to identify change agents and decision-makers in your network. Get involved in the conversation and determine how/where you can provide support for the cause!

Help People: Try befriending a homeless individual and understand what he/she needs. Be a mentor to help direct them to local resources and/or sheperd them to services that can help resolve the situation. Once you have a solid understanding of the situation, advocate for improvements!
