Description

Annual Global Gathering 2019: Cultivating Our Impact

Andiamo a Pollenzo! We are excited to invite you to the Toniic AGG19 in Pollenzo, Italy!

ABOUT AGG19

Join fellow Toniic members in the beautiful and historic Piedmont region of Italy to explore the theme of Cultivating Our Impact.

Cultivate /ˈkʌltəˌveɪt/
Transitive verb

  • To prepare or prepare and use for the raising of crops
  • To foster the growth of, to further, encourage
  • To improve or develop by careful attention, training, or study
  • To seek the society of, make friends with

Modern agriculture, modern finance, and modern life focus relentlessly on maximizing yield. What value has this short-term focus actually brought to our personal lives and to the life of the planet? Sustainability and regeneration are the results of deeper, longer-term goals that are more wholly beneficial to our personal and collective well-being. To move from short-sightedness to the long view is to shift from an attitude of maximizing the harvest to one of tender cultivation of our planetary and personal resources.

Join us for three days of intimate conversations and experiences to explore what it takes to make the shift (and keep shifting) toward greater cultivation. Come enjoy the company of the global Toniic community of resource stewards who share the vision for an inclusive, healthy, vibrant and regenerative planet.

About the Albergo dell'Agenzia

The site of AGG19 is the Albergo dell’Agenzia di Pollenzo, part of the neo-Gothic architectural complex built by Carlo Alberto of Savoy as the hub of agricultural research and production in Piedmont. Restored between 1997-2004 by Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini, the Agenzia combines refined architecture with landscapes of rare beauty and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. The hills of the Langhe and Roero districts that embrace the Agenzia of Pollenzo are also recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for the exceptional universal value of Piedmont’s “scenic rural and wine landscape”.

Just eight years after founding Slow Food, Carlo Petrini felt a strong need to develop this large, prestigious hub of food and wine culture, which he interprets innovatively as a science. He imagined the place as the cultural powerhouse of a new “eno-gastronomy” based on the quality of food and wine, respectful of biodiversity and the environment, careful to erase any form of workplace exploitation. Hence the seven-year rescue operation on the wonderful neo-Gothic complex of the Agenzia, a huge space where Albergo dell’Agenzia, University of Gastronomic Sciences, Academic Tables and Wine Bank live side by side in a state of synergy.

About Slow Food

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us. Since its beginnings, Slow Food has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in over 160 countries, working to ensure everyone has access to good, clean and fair food. Slow Food believes food is tied to many other aspects of life, including culture, politics, agriculture and the environment. Through our food choices we can collectively influence how food is cultivated, produced and distributed, and change the world as a result.
