Event description

Description

Uncommon Ground presents soul stirring singer-songwriter, Toney Rocks in an intimate evening of songs and storytelling. Joined by critically acclaimed Chicago area artists, Rebecca Jasso and Sarah Eide, the evening is sure to be action packed with acoustic Americana influenced music and superb songwriting.

Making his Chicago performance debut in support of his new album, DRIFTING, TONEY ROCKS delivers a show rich in diversity featuring his soulful voice supported by acoustic guitars, ukulele and piano. The Las Vegas Weekly named Rocks as one of the top 10 Acts to Watch in 2017. His sound is an Americana mixture of country, blues and rock with engaging songwriting. A heavy touring artist, Rocks logs more time on the road and on stages all across the country than most indie artists you'll run across. Kathy Forste, Music Director of KC Cafe Radio said, “Toney Rocks voice is cool and sweet, rocking and lyrical. His songs are thoughtful and hummable...”. He has shared the stage with folk music legend, David Bromberg, as well as opened for acclaimed blues artists such as Corey Harris and Jarekus Singleton in addition to his own headlining concerts around the U.S. Ray Sang from UK blog IndustryME says, "I was sold as soon as I heard the husky tones of Toney's voice".

Chicago native REBECCA JASSO is a singer/songwriter who playfully writes around the themes of love, loneliness, and fantasy, skillfully weaving her melodies into the harmonic fabric of her fingerstyle guitar playing. A visual artist, Rebecca conjures images with her lyrics to insert you into pictures from her own imagination. From soft, autumnal landscapes, to dark, Narnian scenes, each song is a journey into a new story. Her honest voice and beautiful songs will absolutely charm you. "Rebecca Jasso has a voice that fits so naturally with the classic voices of American folk music--timeless, free, and curiously familiar." says, Tariq Shihadah of Local Glow.

SARAH EIDE is a lot of things – an award winning composer of film and game music, a classically trained pianist, and a performing singer-songwriter. As a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, it’s no surprise that her talent has taken her further than most independent artists – allowing her to pave a non-traditional path and lifestyle of full-time artistry. Drawing comparisons to iconic contemporary pianist such as Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Ben Folds, Eide’s music is equally thoughtful, quirky, intentional, and honest. It’s a sound she describes as cinematic folk rock with nuances of jazz and pop. Eide reflects, “In a lot of ways my life as a film/game composer crosses into my life as a songwriter. I treat my songs like scenes of movies… as though I’m scoring the lyrics. Most of my songs are written that way and I’ve heard time and again that my music sounds a bit like it was written for film.”
