Tomo Nakayama: BANDCAMP | WEBSITE
Led to Sea: BANDCAMP
Mr and Mrs Muffins: BANDCAMP

“Emotional, sensitive, mind-blowing vocals. Nakayama is the rare, true falsetto, and his latest work Fog on the Lens was recorded during a residency at Town Hall Seattle, where he was literally given the keys to the building to play and reord any time day or night. In the crowd he draws, immersed in the sound he makes, you’ll be your truest self.“ - American Standard Time

On Saturday September 9th, 2017, Tomo Nakayama will celebrate the release of his second solo album, “Pieces of Sky” in the Great Hall of the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. Nakayama will be backed by a full band featuring a lineup of local all stars including Chris Icasiano (Bad Luck), Abbey Blackwell (La Luz), B.C. Campbell, and Alina To (Grand Hallway). Opening the show will be special guests Led To Sea and Mr.&Mrs.Muffins. The show is all-ages and starts at 8PM. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 doors, available at http://www.fremontabbey.org.

Tomo Nakayama:

Tomo Nakayama is an acclaimed singer/songwriter based in Seattle, Washington. Born in Kochi, Japan to a Vietnamese father and Japanese mother, Tomo’s work both as a solo artist and as frontman in his chamber-pop band Grand Hallway have been praised by NPR, New York Times, and KEXP. Known for his crystalline high-tenor voice, intricate fingerpicking, cinematic production style, and simple, poetic lyrics imbued with warmth and humanity and images of the natural world, Tomo’s songs have drawn comparisons to Paul Simon, Elliott Smith, and Sigur Ros. He has also composed music for film and television, and starred as an actor alongside Ellen Page in Lynn Shelton’s Sundance Grand Jury nominated movie “Touchy Feely”. He was Artist in Residence at Seattle’s Town Hall, where he wrote and recorded (with Yuuki Matthews of the Shins) his solo debut album, Fog On The Lens, which spent 8 weeks on the CMJ Top 200 and was named “Album of the Month” by Seattle Met. In 2017, Nakayama toured with Seattle legend Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate and played guitar in Enigk’s band for the 20 year anniversary of his album “Return of the Frog Queen”. The two recorded a split 7” for Black Belt Mastering’s “Live on Lacquer” series (out 8/24/17). Following this, Nakayama wrote the songs which would become his second solo album, Pieces of Sky (out 9/8/17 on Ricebelly Music). The self-produced album finds Nakayama venturing further into the digital chamber folk sound of his debut album while incorporating elements of ambient synths, dream pop atmospherics and analog drum machines into the mix. They reflect his experiences of, among other things, touring solo across the US, Japan, and Europe, and a year spent busking and people watching at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

Led To Sea:

Led to Sea is the solo project of Seattle-based violist Alex Guy. After five years of touring with Mirah, Laura Veirs, Thao Nguyen, the Degenerate Art Ensemble and Jason Webley, Alex has recorded Into the Darkening Sky, a new album of beautiful orchestral and stripped-down songs for viola and voice. She's joined on the record by some of Seattle's most talented musicians, including Jherek Bischoff (The Dead Science) on bass, Lori Goldston (Black Cat Orchestra) on cello, Paul Kikuchi (Orkestar Zirkonium) on drums, and Paris Hurley (Kultur Shock) on violin.

Guy has recorded as a violist and violinist on the albums of Xiu Xiu, the Pharmacy, The Dead Science and Parenthetical Girls. Over the last five years, she also has composed music for a number of theater and dance companies in Seattle, including Dead Bird Movement, Strawberry Theater Workshop and the Degenerate Art Ensemble.

Mr.&Mrs.Muffins

Mr. and Mrs. Muffins are two dreamers living and working in Seattle, WA, raising a Mini Muffin, and, in their limited spare time, writing orchestral jazz pop albums accompanied by imaginative illustrations. On this album, they attempt to share their dearest memories with you, hoping that you can relate to some of them. "The Quiet Moon and Other Midnight Memories" is a 40-minute-long musical journey from the streets of Jakarta to a playground in Seattle, from the stillness of a back porch at sunset to the hustle and bustle of a crowded badminton club, from an intimate first date to the welcoming of a new child.
