Description

9/25 Tom Brosseau, Shelley Short

TOM BROSSEAU: https://tombrosseau.com/

“No artist possesses the same peculiar qualities as Brosseau.... The power of his performing
persona is so strong that he can pervade the whole room with his subjective existence, making
time-warped acolytes out of his audience.” - BBC.com

SHELLEY SHORT: https://www.shelleyshort.com/

"Stripped away as it is, Pacific City finds bold moments in spite of its nakedness, exposing Short’s raw talents for songwriting in a new, unencumbered way. Like the salty waves of the Pacific Ocean that roused her inspiration, her songs roll, crest, and break in naturally radiant repetition. If you listen long enough, you can hear the ocean’s hushed whispers calling on you, too." --Ryan J. Prado, Paste Magazine

MORE EVENT INFO:

“The Carter catalogue is full of songs that when listened to and when performed remind us that
both good and bad times have happened before and they’ll happen again. But above all the
Carter Family songs also remind us that we are not alone.” – Tom Brosseau 2019
Tom Brosseau is a songwriter, a keen listener and passionate collector of folk music of America
by way of the British Isles and Ireland. He holds hundreds of songs in his head, standards and
obscure, tucked away and at the ready. This obsession, if you will, with the roots of folk music
prompted Tom to deep dive into the Carter Family oeuvre.
Tom enlisted his frequent musical compadre and producer, Sean Watkins, and together over
several years they recorded these Carter Family gems. The digital album, In The Shadow Of The

Hill, is at times playful, often heart-tugging and filled with harmonies, an album of seldom-
heard handpicked songs, culled from the entire Carter Family catalogue.

Brosseau has been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered, Weekend Edition & First Listen,
Cerys Matthews’ BBC6 show; his songs included in Judd Apatow’s Netflix series Love, and in the
Showtime series, Shameless. He and actor John C. Reilly team up on select occasions to
perform classic country and folk songs. John Parish (PJ Harvey) produced Brosseau’s 2015
Perfect Abandon, recorded live to one mic for Brosseau and his 3-piece combo. Brosseau and
Sean Watkins collaborated on two albums - Grass Punks (2014) and North Dakota
Impressions (2016)
