Description

This two-day workshop will provide the information and guidelines for doing group play therapy. During the two days these topics will be covered:

  • Benefits and rationale for group play therapy compared to individual play therapy
  • Dynamics and considerations to putting a group together
  • Impact of neurobiology in group work
  • Ethical concerns of working with children in group setting
  • Group play therapist characteristics
  • Play therapist skills needed, blending individual and group skills
  • Special populations: sibling group; sexually abused children; etc.
  • Documentation/record keeping for group play therapy
  • Group skill practice

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of the two days, participants will be able to:

  1. discuss the benefits of group play therapy
  2. articulate the impact of neurobiology in a group setting
  3. identify reflective skills necessary for the group play therapist
  4. list considerations for the development of a group
  5. demonstrate the ability to complete group play therapy documentation
  6. discuss ethical issues regarding having several children in one room at one time

Mental health professionals taking this training will benefit from already having experience in providing individual play therapy. It is highly recommended that the participant has training, experience, and supervision in individual play therapy.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

Door of Hope is an approved continuing education provider with Texas LPC #3360 and TX SW #7620. Homeyer & Associates is co-sponsoring this training and is an Association for Play Therapy (APT) Approved Provider 98-041. This training provides 6 contact continuing education hours

9:00-10:30 Seminar

10:30 - 10:45 Morning Break (snacks and beverages available)

10:45- Noon Seminar

Noon-1:00 Lunch on your own (or bring and enjoy in our Courtyard)

1:00 – 2:30 Seminar

2:30-2:45 Afternoon Break (snacks and beverages available)

2:25 – 4:30 Seminar

4:30 Closing, Evaluation completion, Certificate distribution

REFUND POLICY:
A refund, less $25 processing fee, is available if requested in writing/email within 7 days of the event.
